Outbreak II - Redoing this thread that ended up shitty viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65293
Mod's if you want it in Art let me know and move it there. Thanks.

Basic premise - we will go with Terrorist theme for release of new bio-weapon.
In the US, attack (patient zeros) to occur in all 50 State Capitols and DC.
Additional cities: Los Angles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City, Virginia Beach, New Orleans, & Miami
Worldwide: Country Capitols plus cities with 5+ million daily inhabitants. (This way our International ZS'ers get to play)
Notable exceptions are Northern Africa, and all Middle East Countries (include Turkey) to Pakistan none of these have a Patient Zero sent to them.

Zombies: Not slow, but not super rager fast either. Though winter does slow but not freeze them.

Incubation Time: Variable anywhere from quick (30 minutes) to slow (36 hours). Less than 0.01% immune rate.
Infected Via: Bite (of course) and any other bodily fluid, individual is infectous even during incubation time starting 20 minutes after infected time. Scratches alone do not infect. Some bodily fluid must interchange.
30 minutes after infection, individual doesn't feel well, may have fever and chills. The few that might be immune are still contigous up to 48hours before the danger passes and the body rejects it.

Start date of Patient Zero's injecting themselves world-wide: Calendar wise I'm looking at June 14 for the timeline. Monday at 0800 East Coast time. All were to be in a mass transit place to begin the terror.

And we begin:
Situation: White - Nothing on any local news as of yet.

Going about my business at work (Downtown Cincinnati), occasionally checking ZS and the fiction board on FS, as well as MSM and Consumerist. Actually have most of my work done for the day. Thinking about putting in a PTO notice for Monday cause I've got work to do around the house and with the humidity right now, it's a pain trying to do things outside in the evening heat\humidity.

Also have one of my MAG on gchat. We just exchanged links regarding the solar activity cycles.

Kicking around working on book 2 of my zombie crossover fic, since I just uploaded another chapter to ZS's Art board... (Shameless Plug: Click here if you're bored)

Mid-day news:
Local news reports crazed man at local bus/metro terminal. Reports of deranged man attacking other passengers, several injuries reported.
Variant on location: serveral circumstances have police ending the subject's life with numerous rounds (lucky headshots), others were restrained by several officers many being bit during the process - subject hauled off, in few locations manhunt underway (Philly / Chicago / Los Angles).
None of the individual stories make it outside of Regional Mid-day news cycle. BP Oil hearings and World Cup are the main topic of the day.
There is one blurb about a man attacking from the visiting line at the White House in DC, and that he was killed in the process. Two Capitol Police officers and one civilian suffering minor injuires.

Unreported is restrained subjects in many cases suffered several gunshot wounds yet weren't bleeding.

Yay, I get to play this time.

Not being anywhere near any of the incidents I am blissfully ignorant of the outbreak.
Planned preps for this week are to buy another 55gal drum and fill with stabil'd gas since I read yesterday that gas prices have likely bottomed out for the summer. Should be filled by Friday.
Since the news is sparse, odd, and unrelated I'm sure dogbane would have posted something about it so maybe I'm not quite so blissful?

i do usually keep up to date on the news but i wouldn't be overly paranoid or alerted to a few reports of people acting crazy in the media without all the details. so i suppose at this point it would be life as usual. im off work until tomorrow night so in the meantime i suppose i'd be hanging out around the house or out working in the yard with my dog.

Well since today is my day off I'm mainly just lounging around the house, checking on ZS and yahoo, and waiting for my girlfriend to get off work.

On yahoo the mention in the local news about some guy attacking people at the trolley station goes mostly unnoticed by me as this isn't to uncommon.

Final check of the net around this time, since I'm going to head out a bit early.

No mention of the attack at the bus station (assuming you meant the local one, not the one in Columbus) in interoffice chatter (primary topic is the big butter jeebus going up in flames last night).

Oh this might not go well for me. I work right in Austin. And yeah – I have a hospital not too far away. Though I imagine any self respecting terrorist is going to start the infection farther down town, next to the capitol. There are lots of businesses, crowded bars, traffic, and mass transit. The best live music in the country will be among the first casualties. Depending on when the news breaks I’ll at least have a good chance of making it home and roads fill with panic.

Note: If you don't have a location in your profile, let me know in one of your posts. I'll try to include more local details for those playing along.

If any of you want to write in 'eye witness' stuff to any of this, by all means do so. Especially the Emergency Workers. Police/Fire/Med Staff

Now before I go home for the day, I'll post up some more tonight:
Day 1
Evening news
Local Headlines:
Several animal attack remains in park during mid-day were discovered. Victims looked to be eaten and multilated.
This headline is repeated in several major cities. (Notably NYC & Philly)
National News:
Several severe thunderstorms moving across the plains, expected major flooding to occur.
Attacker at White House by eye witness accounts seemed to be wearing a bullet proof vest of some sort as initial shots to his chest did not seem to faze him. Secret Service Agent is being credit with taking him down with a shooting drill known as Mozambique Drill. Reports indicate he attacked a little girl in the line beside him and when the Capitol Police intervened he attacked them pummeling and biting at them. All three were treated at the local hospital with the child being kept for observation.
A small blurb is put out about a charity being set up for the little girl that was attacked as she didn't have medical insurance.

Local EMS/Police knowledge:
Several of these attackers showed no slowing to wounds to chest. Many were bitten, treated, and released because of their minor wounds and sent home for the day. Lack of blood by many of the attackers.

No National tie in at this time.

In other news the World Cup is in full swing now.

Gov Jindal announce he will defy the EPA and implement his own plan to save LA's shorelines.

Basically think of it as a slow picture coming forth, some might see it first hand (the eye witness), some might not hear about it for a week (think the farmer in the midwest who comes to town about once a month to get his mail).
Mass Transit and Very Public gathering places were their orders for attempting to subcumb to it.

Ok. I'll play. I'm in Essex on the outskirts of London, UK. At this point I doubt it would register as too much of a threat. News most days has some cort of violent attack in London. In fact news this week has been dominated by a reported fox attack on two toddlers asleep in their own home. I bet any unusual animal activity would be interpreted as another case of this. So I'm at home, keeping house and gradually improving my preps. There are no weapons here bar kitchen knives, my multitool and hubbies crossbow in the loft.

Game on. :o

I already know about it, because there's already a thread about it, and there's probably already a secret ZS Board/Moderator meeting about whether to put it in OT or DICE. This meeting is as tense as the Cuban Fucking Missle Crisis I bet. Dogbane (Robert DeNiro) looks nervously at CLEAR CUT (Jason Voorhees) who both defer to PistolPete (a large donkey farting in the corner). No one can pull the trigger on this one, which is maybe the most ironic thing ever, since it's actual zombies and this is actually Zombie Squad.

I'm also checking my local e-papers for similar outbreaks. Thankfully, terrorists forgot that I live in the 4th largest city in the US and work in the largest medical complex the world has ever seen. Or maybe they just don't wanna mess with Texas. Either way, I'm good, but watching this thing closely.

Likely, by this time, some of my coworkers are nervously joking with me about zombies. I'm playing it very cool and joking back. Something about the "Zombie Outbreak Barricade" not shipping yet LOL. :|

Plan is to leave work early if possible and assess/build up my supplies at the grocery store this evening. Not that I'm an alarmist, but any excuse to prep is a good one.

Keep going to work, with out much of a worry.

Pack lunch, kiss the missus goodbye and then head off down the road as usual.

I an in
I will continue to go to work at the local hospital (because of where the kitchen is located relative the ER combine with the fact that it is still in the basement it could be a potential deathtrap in case the zombies can get through the stairs) but at this point I would just make sure to top off the fuel in each of our vehicles and replace the ammo that I shot up a couples of weeks to my store of 223 back up to 1500 rounds and keep checking the local news and internet.

Late News
Same stories continue till about 11:08pm Eastern.
Than breaking report of plane crash in El Paso, Air Mexico Flight 180  has crashed on the outskirts of the city flying from Mexico City.
Crash is about 4 miles short of the airport. All that is publicly known at this time was a disruptive passenger becoming violent.

National and Local news focuses on the air disaster and it's terror connections.
Muddle in the background news was an increase in the Terror Threat board. Most of the broadcasters called it a dollar short and a day late.

While news ignores it for the bigger story in El Paso, those with emergency band scanners are picking up more reports of animal attacks or deranged people attacking others.
Gang wars are flaring up in Los Angles due to a Crip attacking a Blood in broad daylight at a neutral meeting place. Several innocents have been caught in the crossfire.

Several more attacks in London, BBC is asking citizens to stay indoors while the animal is hunted down.

my local city isn't noted in your original description, so I guess I'm a bit luckier since I would have a little bit more time to prepare than others.

I'd have to bug in, I've said it before but I'll say it again, my home is my castle and where everything I own is. All my food, weapons, tools and other preps. I get on the computer everyday, to check my email, daily readers and news. So something has to show up sometime. At the first signs of confirmed outbreaks what I'd do:

1.- Call my family, including my wife's family, and tell them to come over and bring all their water and food and a few changes of clothes and meet me at my house in 30 minutes (the drive to my house should be no longer than 10 mins)

2.- Go to walmart and max out my credit card buying supplies. Since the news are very recent, there should be lots of supplies left and it shouldn't be that busy. (I do have my own preps so depending on when I saw the news and it was bad, I would probably skip this step and live off what I currenty have.

3.- board up the windows and any glass doors (the kitchen door) while someone else that would be at my house to load up all my magazines and take out all my rifles.

4.- fill both bath tubs full of water, my 7 5-gallon water juggs and any other container and continue using the water from the tap until it stops flowing.

Mason City, Iowa (30k pop, isolated city) is my location.

I see nothing in this news that is unusual other than the USSS putting down the attacker. I make noises like I normally do and go about my routine.

Oh, my BOV is full now btw, but cash is low. Still no BOB as I'm addressing other issues in my preps as well. First game gave me an eye-opener on the gas issue most of all. The Dodge has 20 gallons of pure gasoline in it, so I have a range around 350-400 miles (though that will go down as the week progresses).

In other news I'm coming down with a bit of a head cold and loathing life.

So far there's enough in news to put me at code orange. Organize preps, load bov, go ahead and fill up the drum with gas to have 100 gal on hand. Call friends, family, and group to discuss new. I don't think I would be in "Oh noes, zombieeeeeeees!!! Max out the CC on preps!" point yet.

My Zombie Barricade Tape and pair of MD Arms 20-round Saiga 12 drum mags just shipped today!!!! I have no option but to stay here. :( Sure, I'd have bugged out sooner, but I AM NOT, I repeat NOT starting this Zombocalypse without a trio of 12-gauge drum mags and my zombie barricade tape. :x

I'll play. My hometown is Jackson, pop. 2,490, 108 miles from the capitol of Kentucky, Frankfort, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. My home county is Breathitt, pop. 16,100. My AO is sparsely populated.

I am watching a breaking news report from WKYT that a man attacked several travelers in the Bluegrass Airport outside of Lexington, KY, seven injured. (I'm taking a liberty here Yeti, so I'll STFU if you want). The suspect is now in custody in the Lexington-Fayette County Jail. The 10 o'clock news on WDKY tells of a mauling of a child by a coyote in Perry County, before continuing coverage of the White House attack takes over.

Right now my spidey senses are tingling. I'm not normally the tinfoil hat type, but the news pouring in over the Internet and TV is tripping my instincts. I run to Jackson (16 miles round trip) to fill up the car. When I get to the Shell Mart (the local late-night stop), I notice a car with Fayette County tags is rocking on its springs, and the occupant seems to be beating himself against the windows. The image stays with me, so when I get home I unlock the guns and set them out where they can be handy, but my disabled brother cannot get at them. I can't shake that itch.

I'll play too. :-)

At this point it's business as usual. If I happen to read any internet reports about zombies or walking dead I figure they are probably just made up, or maybe a zombie flash mob or performance art or something. I've seen enough people doing crazy stuff to get attention. A slight sinking feeling like "aw, crap. not again" comes over me when I hear about terrorist alert levels on the news. But there's nothing I can do about that. I live way out in the country about 90 minutes West of Raleigh, NC, so I haven't seen anything unusual. Tomorrow morning (Wed) I wake up and drive in to work in RTP as usual.

I mean, really. Zombies? I've got too much to do to to worry about anything so unlikely.

Supplies: dry goods for about six months. Well water. PV power. 2000sqft summer garden just starting to produce.
Weapons: various shotguns, pistols, and rifles. A few thousand rounds of ammo.

ps. trying to be honest here.

I don't wanna jump the gun here but.... Chest shots not dropping them, no or little blood from wounds, they're biting people. The guy at the Whitehouse didn't go down till he was shot in the head. Doesn't this sound a little like...oh...maybe.. ZOMBIES? But for real? This shit's crazy, I'm gonna definately look out my door before going to work in the morning.

In the USA, every person is going to think "zombie" or at least "zombie-like". In which case, shooting either one in the head is still going to do the job. Might as well travel the extra mile and aim a little higher.

Someone "you shot the guy in the head cuz he was a zombie?"

me: "no, I shot him in the head cuz he was grabbing random people and devouring them on the street......o yeah and he was coming right for me."
