ODA 226's Wilderness Ditch Kit

Postby ODA 226 » Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:52 pm

This is my entry to the Zombie Squad Magazine Pouch Survival Kit Competition. I used an ATS Canteen Carrier as the base for my kit. Trying to keep true to the competition, I kept almost everything inside the Canteen Carrier with the exception of things I feel are tactically necessary to carry on the outside such as a red-lens light, a military lensatic compass, a signal whistle, a homemade rock sling and 50’ of braided 550 cord that is used as a sling to carry the kit.
Here is a video of the concept:

Part Two:

The Magazine Pouch Survival Kit fully packed:

Here it is being carried with the 50’ Braided 550 Cord:
http://s790.photobucket.com/albums/yy18 ... g&newest=1

The inner carrier is a Coleman Thermos Bottle that is fit inside of a Coleman 16 ounce pot:
http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy18 ... MG2282.jpg

Here is a layout of all contained inside of the kit:
http://s790.photobucket.com/albums/yy18 ... g&newest=1

1. ATS Canteen Carrier
2. Snap link
3. 50’ Braided 550 Cord
4. Thermos top w/ folded spoon carrier
5. Coleman 16 ounce pot
6. Thermos bottom w/ and match striker
7. HD Tape
8. Map of AO
9. Clear Poncho/ Solar Still
10. Water Purification Tablets
11. Handmade Rock Sling Weapon
12. Tin of Sardines
13. Beretta 950 BS .25 ACP Pistol
14. Coleman Insect Repellent Spray Pen
15. Water Bag
16. P-38 Can Opener
17. Hacksaw Blade
18. Beretta 8 shot Pistol Magazine
19. Signal Mirror
20. Large Leatherman Tool
21. Folding Spoon
22. 10 Feet of Waxed Cordage
23. 9 Spare Rounds of .25 Cal ACP
24. Log Lighter
25. Small Leatherman Tool
26. 4 Waterproof Matches and Ranger Band
27. 3 Safety Pins
28. Button Compass
29. Small Bic Lighter
30. Large Bic Lighter
31. Magnesium Fire Starter
32. Space Blanket
33. M118 Illuminating Flare
34. 30' Military Trip Wire/ Snare Wire
35. 10' Brass Snare Wire
36. Razor Blade/ 2 Sinkers/ 2 Fish Hooks/ 50’ Fishing Line
37. Thumb Drive w/ Important Documents/ Photos
38. Mini Mag Flashlight
39. Tea Candle
40. Red Lens Flashlight
41. Emergency Whistle/ Thermometer/Compass/ Magnifying Glass
42. Military Lensatic Compass/ Magnifying Glass
43. Mini FAK with Bandaids/ Burn Pads/ Anti-Bacterial Ointment/ 2 Baby Wipes/Motrin/Parafon Forte/Burn Cream
44. Tourniquet / Slingshot Band
45. Alcohol Prep Pad
As I stated in the video, I always pack for operation redundancy. For example, in this kit I have 5 different methods to make fire, 5 ways to signal, 2 ways to carry water, 2 ways to make traps etc AND can defend myself with a firearm against two-legged attack if necessary! I additionally have the means to VERY QUICKLY use what is in my kit to catch or kill bigger and better food.

I hope ya’ll like my concept and hope to hear feedback soon!

I really like all those red "x"'s -- where'd you buy those?

Jim

Good luck Craig, it's been fun competing with you and everyone else.

ODA, the .25 pistol is a serious issue for me. Make it a .22 LR or .22 WMR and you might have a decent kit. ;)

My .380 or my Springfield .45 ACP Micro Compact is too big to fit. A 9 shot 25 ACP is more than enough to signal with, enough for small game and is enough to pursuade any two-legged predators to leave me alone. I had to stick within the contest parameters.

And please take into consideration that Paragon's kit has NO FIREARM!

Seriously though your entry shared quite a few new "why didn't I think of that" type ideas that I love. My BOB has sardines in it now. I'll have to test that out here soon when my fishing liscense gets renewed. And oddly enough I've also had that same whistle/thermometer/compass/lens and a microlight hanging off my bag since I was a wee cub scout.

He does have a point here. Yea could have worked in a .22LR with .25 backup.

And a Stella you shall receive! I bought that canteen carrier at the ATS store at Ft. Campbell, KY. last month. You might want to check their website.

This has definately been an interesting topic!
When I get my new GHB sorted I will need to do a review.
It will be about 3 times this size but will include a take-down 22, quality tarp and much more!
