Melee Weapons?
Great if your gaming. Impractical if not essential and no other options are available.

I gotta go with frag, frag, frag, strategic retreat and controlled withdrawl. Repeat as necessary until the threat has been neutralized or safety is reached. Then call for artey and pound the area to dust. Sweep up, clean up, secure locale.

If it's just gaming we're talkin' about, then strategic withdrawl, call the wizards and pound the area to dust with lightning bolts and area effect spells.

Confused about the blue wire boss...? :(

It is a joke that is older than I (on here at least) run a search for blue phone cord and katanas and you'll come up with a ton of hits just read through some of them and you'll get the idea.

..joke? i think you're missing the point mate. blue phone cord means you can swing the katana faster because the phonecord has less friction with the air than the cord they normally use. also it just looks damn sexy, sometimes i like to wrap my gf up in blue phone cord... mmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmm

we all know that you use your ninja glock to get to your ninja ak and have the katana wrapped in phone cord incase you need a silent kill or you run out of ammo for your ninja glock... if you run outta ammo with a ninja ak then you know you're up shit creek

Yes. But a Ninja has no risk of running out of ammo with those 100 round mags. I wish I knew a ninja who would make me one ... by that ninja.

[quote="Murph
Okay, I'll play... 5m kill radius, 10m kill diameter. 10m x ~3ft/m = 30 ft kill diameter
And your average living room is about 16ft x 16ft which is 256 sq.ft.

Considering the above, it would be next to impossible that anything would be left living in your average sized room. The living-dead would be zombie-kibble.[/quote]

uhmmm...Wouldn't that include you too if you were in the same room?....Is a grenade really a viable option if you are being attacked while in a small room? I guess you could run out of the room and hope that the zombie didn't follow close behind you befor you could toss a grenade into the room then hopes it explodes befor it leaves the room,,,,Sounds pretty iffy
I'd rather just shoot it with a shotgun or pistol or use a Machete , sword or axe if didn't have a gun....T

No way, I'm so ninja, I'm grenade proof!

Frag Grenades are not so effective in your average living room. The blast goes about 2m around the grenade and the fragments fly at LESS than the speed of sound, And are easily stopped or deflected by household furniture...... Dry walls absorb these fragments, Any zombie behind a couch will survive. Also these is no 100% guarantee that all the Z's would be hit in the brain by random fragments. And then fire takes hold, the average living room is highly flammable, so any gear you wanted in there is essentially lost.

As for a close quatrers weapon I agree with Aus templar, A shield and a bar, preferably one heavyish and shapede like a mace. Crush the skull then move on. As a katana gets blunt, and it will severing heads, eventually it will get stuck and then you are unarmed.....

If CQB is your thing may I suggest some motorcycle leather as body armour. Cover it in grease and the Z's cant grip you, their hands slide off. Also its pretty hard for then to bite through it and its basically a full body suit thats light and comfortable as well as some reasonable protection. Combined with good boots and a lightweigt protec helmet you are as protected as you can be in the hand to hand dept.

Can you quote your source please? Because I know for a fact that a blast of a grenade goes more than 2 meters. How do I know this? Well I've thrown grenades, and I quoted the distance from Wikipedia in one of my earlier post. If you have something that proves your quote I'll gladly take it as a fact but until then.......

Depending on make and size, but the actual blast area of the average hand thrown frag grenade is 2m. The fragmentation lethal zone is 5m and the casualty radius is 15m.

My source is 13 years of use.

My apologies you do have it right with a kill zone of 5m I saw 2m and thought kill zone but your talking about actual explosive power not frag flying. I do see where your coming from. I still think that just about anything in the room will be pretty screwed up within that 5m-10m range out side of that I do agree not much damage. Will it guarantee a head shot with a kill? No, but with a living target your going to rip apart flesh, tendons, ligaments and they wont be walking anytime soon. As for Zeds well they already shamble so it's not going to effect them much.

Well, besides avoiding close quarter combat. This is more of a defense question, e.g. you open a closet but unfortunately there was a zombie in it (and don't tell me that you all go tactical on every closet). Close quarter will sooner or later just happen even if you remember Rule 31: "Check the Back Seat" from Zombieland. So your best weapon would be some decent hand/arm armor to block the bite, do a takedown, then draw a fighting knife (rondel dagger would be my first choice, thrust needs less room to operate than a swing). Personally I fell that once your that close a gun might be a bit too "explosive".
Rule 9: Guns Are for Hunting, Not for Zombie Killing: When your running who has time to stop for bullets? Keeping a shotgun on hand is important but only when your pinned in and need a quick getaway. Its not a proper means for killing zombies as they run out of ammo and need reloading. Remember a Cricket Bat, or Toilet Lid do not need loading!

Neither running nor shooting might always be a good / viable option.

Assuming that noise does attract zombies it might be wise to employ stealthier methods to dispatch zombies close to your castle or say you have to change tires on your BOV and a couple of zombies scuffle by. In either case its probably not so simple to run away and abandon your BOV / castle. Your best option in cases like this would be a melee weapon capable of efficiently dispatch the zombies.

Silent alternatives:
Bows: Need training and ammo. To penetrate the skull you need a good arrow and anytime it gets stuck in the head you would have to use messy surgery to get it out of the zombie brain, something you probably want to avoid.
Crossbows: Easy to use but need ammo (see above). In addition most crossbows have a very low frequency of shooting, and those that are fast are probably not PAW approved in terms of durability.
Thrown weapons: While an axe or hammer might be a good option, carring more than one of them seems impractical...
Silencers: Still quite noisy (depending on the gun 70 - 100 db). Not the expert but I think they also need quite some maintenance.
