Best Close Quarters

Postby Kingdom » Tue Feb 16, 2010 6:45 pm

Ok, so me and some friends(Around six, possibly more.) have developed our own plan for the zombie invasion. It works much like a game of battlefield would work, and that is referring to the Kit system. Each of our members specialize in one or two things. For example, I am the close quarters kit, and for a few good reasons:
1.) I do not have easy access to a gun or standard projectile weapon, spears and javelin-esque weapons excluded. This may seem like a small factor, however my own morals will not allow me to take someone else's gun for my own safety. I am more on safety of others. Darn morals gonna get me killed one day.
2.) I, personally, prefer melee weapons. Perhaps my obsession with a challenge. The more effort it takes, the greater the reward after all. My mind has been set back in the dark ages ever since I knew what fantasy was, so knights and soldiers of that era fascinate me. Why wouldn't I follow in their footsteps? Plus, shield and sword combo is a winner every time. (b^-^)b
3.) I have plenty, running on a plethora, of melee weapons at my house. They aren't standard or conventional, but hell to that. I will use my light-weight and and pretty durable metal pipes(Probably aluminum from their weight. They also vary in size, so I have situational uses for each.) and my mattocks. Good ol' mattocks. What better one-shot-then-drop weapon is there?

Ok, so now to the point of this thread. What do you guys think the best close quarters weapon(s) are? They can be a combination of many or just one, I am open for ideas. Pics are always nice, and even videos of weapons in use are nice.

If I were doing close quarters, I'd say short barrel shotgun or a revolver/handgun.

If I were speaking from the items I own, I'd have to go with my Hi-Power, since I don't want to pay an exorbitant fee that's, imo, unconstitutional, just to chop off the barrel of a shotgun.

Forget the meelee weapons - they are about as useless as tits on a bull. The best way to deal with close quarters combat in a PAW is to AVOID IT unless you have a death wish. Even with proper training and proper weapons (nobody with training would use or even carry "meelee weapons") CQB will eventually lead to you getting hit, the wound getting infected following by an unpleasant death.

Wait are we talking about real life, or a dungeon's and dragons... errr zombies game??

Either way, grenades.

Keep in mind this is zombie squad, the line between real life, dungeons & dragons, and errr zombies games may not be a very fine line...

Ok I'll agree with this to a point. Yes in close quarters a grenade is very effective with a blast radius of 15m on average
up wards of 250m occasionally quoted from Wikipedia
with a fatality radius of 5m. But when your talking only 5m of fatality for the most part all your doing to the remainder of Zeds is ripping already decaying flesh off of them sure it may stop a few of them but it is no guarantee. Depending on the circumstances for CQB most of the time you will be inside of a building of some sort and is there enough room for you to toss a grenade far enough away from you with out any chance of getting hit (remember the 250m) not betting that there is unless you can get behind something solid that can take the impact. Like a wall of sand bags at least 2 feet thick (may not have to be this thick but I side on caution).

As for melee weapons there was a show a while back on cable I believe it was Spike that had it on I can't remember the name of the show but it compared different fighting styles, weapons, and other things. They used some computer program to show what the fight would be like if you were to pair up a Spartan and a Knight of the Round Table, or an Apache with a Ninja. It was a very interesting show to watch because they used actual scientific data taken in their warehouse, and input it into the program. They use masters of the fighting style as their tester testing on sensor pads, pig corpses etc..

Okay, I'll play... 5m kill radius, 10m kill diameter. 10m x ~3ft/m = 30 ft kill diameter
And your average living room is about 16ft x 16ft which is 256 sq.ft.

Considering the above, it would be next to impossible that anything would be left living in your average sized room. The living-dead would be zombie-kibble.
Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

if the pipes are aluminium then they're good for about one half of an impact... seriously just go outside and hit a tree or something with one of them and see how badly it bends... sure it might effectively disable a zombie's brain however the second hit would most likely cause the pipe to bend yet further and under the stress snap. leaving you with half a pipe and effectively an under-weighted fistloader.

if you insist on this "I will not have a gun, I will be a real man and fight with melee weapons because in the ZPAW I really want a challenge because "The more effort it takes, the greater the reward after all" " (as opposed to the reward I am attempting to obtain... that being survival) then get yourself a riot shield (or make similar) and a crowbar (or similar)

OK I understand this logically. But it was my understanding that the fatality radius was a total of 15' diameter. I may be wrong with my thoughts. But I do understand what your saying that there is nothing that would survive in a 30' kill zone when your average room is only 16x16

I thought we were in agreement from the last thread that conventional troops with LOS projectile weapons like many of us today subscribe to don't mix well with melee troops of any kind. From classical to the modern age once forces mix it up at CQB ranges launching rounds into that mess is bad news for both sides.
My son, you will travel far, but never be alone, for I am with you, my M14 and battle axe comfort you.

This, I think, is where you're getting confused. The diameter of a circle is twice the radius.

It is a joke that is older than I (on here at least) run a search for blue phone cord and katanas and you'll come up with a ton of hits just read through some of them and you'll get the idea.
