the hest is a good bit of kit and the reason also is that if i gotta ditch the bag i can have a couple nice things on there ... as i was reviewing my post i missed a couple things so ill put an update

i also have enough space in the bag for all the stuff on the front , as this is also a sub load for edc ,and my other bags...

So here are my submissions. The first one I have had around for a few years, I built it in a college course on wilderness survival. It fits snug next to my seat in the jeep.





It is an older canvas ammo pouch with:
A gerber fixed blade. I don't usually keep the paracord daisychained to it but I'm experimenting here so...
Inside:
A baking tin
Outside the baking tin is A straw water purifier, lighter, LED and chapstick.

Inside the tin:
Plastic Poncho and Blanket
Notepad w/ pencil wrapped in duct tape
Fishing kit
Whistle
Cotton balls to fill in the gaps
Wire saw (on top of) A compass
BOAT

All put together


Inside the boat is:
Safety pins
Floss
Pencil
fishing string
Snare wire
Foil
Butterfly Bandaids
Mag and Flint
Gerber Knife w/ Razor blades
Birthday candles
Rubber band goes around the boat






Here is the one I made for my wife for Christmas. I also made one for my sister mostly identical to this.

This one also has the baking tin with most of the same goods as mine.
Roll of 550 Cord goes in the gernade pouch
CRKT knife in sheath goes in the side
BOAT goes in the bottom of the tin
Cotton balls fill in the gaps
Note Pad, poncho and blanket go in last

2 Tea Candles, I "upgraded" her to these after reading the idea at ZS

Under the P-78 is some snare wire
Gerber pocket knife with razor blades, the kind wrapped in cardboard
The purple straw contains a few needles and some thread
White/ Green straw contains fishing weights
White straw contains fishing line
White/ Blue straw contains fishing hooks pretied to string
Rubber band goes around the BOAT




The great thing about this contest is it makes you take a look at your kit and gives others a chance to look at and critic your kit. Just posting this I realize like 20 things I could do to make these way better. As with all preps these should go along with common sense, dress sensible and remember your EDC. If your going out into the sticks bring food and water...

Thanks, and by all means copy and adapt it for yourself. The signal mirror is my favorite part. It's all metal and thinner than a credit card. It takes up almost zero space, and adds next to nothing to the weight.

Those kits are exactly what I have in mind when I think about what this contest is about! All bases covered in a package small enough to belt carry or toss in a daypack. I very much like that you have made extras for your family, they mighty just come in handy someday! Might be good to have a list of contents and a few survival tips included...

I don't have a mag pouch so I used a crappy airsoft 'medic' pouch. Not the most durable and definitely not pretty but it does the job! Dimensions are 19cm x 13cm x 6.5cm, approximately 98 cubic inches.

I have tried to keep this kit as versatile as possible but my priorities (in order) are Shelter, Water, Fire, Signal and Food Procurement. I have tried to include as many multi-use items as possible such as the tarp (shelter, rain wear, water collection, carrying device), dental floss (hygiene, cordage, sewing, trapping) and ubiquitous duct tape (repairs, medical, trapping, signal).

Although the fire kit is reasonably comprehensive, if conditions are wet, careful rationing of the small amount of tinder is required. I figure to keep the first fire alive to preserve supplies.


*** NOTE: I would loved to have put a fixed blade in but even my rc3 was too big to fit into the pouch. As my aim was to keep this kit contained within the pouch I went with a quality folder instead.

It's been one month since we started this thing rolling , 280 posts and 5,800 looks, wow!

Lots of good stuff from all of you, and we sill have a month to go! Hope we get lots more kits posted up, however big, small, expensive or cheap. In the end, it's the kit that works for you that matters

Comments:
I hope to use the duct tape in place of bandaids, and if I needed to repair the heatsheet.
I chose a smaller needle so that I could theoretically use it to suture. I have used standard curved cutting needles before, but not straight sewing needles. Would it work? Hope I don't need to answer that...
I could add my platy canteen to the pouch, but I tried to keep it simple. The ziplock should work fine.
I threw some moist towels in there for comfort, something I think I would appreciate if I was ever bloody/dirty and stranded somewhere...
I have the ranger bands around the slingshot bands so I could use them to attach to a branch, and make it easier to construct a slingshot, and even deconstruct should that be necessary.

Hopefully this is something that could be easily reproduced, kinda like Murph's garage sale kit. Granted, mine has much more expensive stuff (like the Wave and headlamp) but the rest is fairly cheap, esp the container.
