viewtopic.php?f=43&t=64370My BLS and Airways Bags, Part 1
Front Compartment of BLS BagThough I'm especially new to this site, I am not new to the art of SERE, wilderness survival, emergency medical care, and weapons training. I currently am a NREMT-FR, firefighter, and am trained in search and rescue and high angle rescue.
The bags shown below are my two most used ones. They are my BLS (Basic Life Support) and AB (Airways, Basic) bag. The BLS bag is manufactured by London Bridge and the AB bag by Conterra. They are by far my favorite producers of bags for the military, tactical, and outdoors based medic. When going into a situation, you must always consider all the variable and conditions and I own about 6 total medical bags for specific reasons. I don't actually have a traditional EMS bag; the ones they resemble a duffel and can be slung over a shoulder. I really have no use for those types of bags and they are very specific to a EMS individual that has the ability to safely drive to and transport their patients, as well as a huge amount of resupply waiting for them whenever they need it.
And first and foremost, I am trained to use all the equipment in these bags, and much more. I don't, however carry many ALS items because I am not NREMT certified to have them in my bag and I could loose my job having those items without proper credentials since I often use this bag at work. If it were ever to come to the situation where ALS equipment had to be used and we were in a SHTF scenario, then by all means I would be using it, and carefully. One thing you won't see in my bags though are things that I don't know how to use. You can do much more harm then good trying to do or use something you don't know how to and should never over step boundaries and I feel that everyone should understand that. Just because you have an ET tube doesn't mean you should use it unless you know how to.
Exterior:
The bag is olive green and displays one of my certification cards in the open window, I store my primary EMS cards in my wallet. Below that I have an IR Medic patch located on the exterior of the bag.
Side View:
On the sides store my 7.5" EMS Trauma Shears. They're close and be grabbed in a hurry. The bag can expand to a very large size and has 6 compression straps located around the surface of it.
Main Compartment (Hemorrhage/Massive Trauma) Top View:
The outermost portion of this bag has been designated the trauma and hemorrhage area of the bag because it contains enough elastic loops and is designed to accommodate many gauze and compression wraps as well as all of my surgical tools.
