I am using a basic CLS bag purchased from the local surplus store. Enough room for all my new stuff, the nylon isn't super heavyduty but it rides inside my backpack, so I think I am ok there. I am only carrying those things that I know how to use. As my First Aid / EMT training increases, so will the contents list of my FAK.

Here it is with all the pockets crammed with stuff.




The smallest pocket contains basic "oops" stuff :

Single dose cold/flu/ick meds
20count 2x2 pads
12 count 4x4 pads
bag 'o bandaids
2 moleskins
OTC meds incl asperin, tylenol, pepto, immodium, benadryl
neosporin
hand sanitizer
Superglue
sharpies (but they live in the middle slot compartment, not sure how they got here)
E-Tape.



The middle pocket holds liquids - they are all new, sealed.

2-120ml sterile saline for eye and wound cleansing
burnjel
Povidone solution
mercuroclean
90% isopropyl alc

The nitrile gloves, small notpad, and 1 of two pairs of trauma shears reside in the center slot compartment



The main compartment has all the real bandages and stuff:

3 rolls 4" kerlix
3 rolls 2" kerlix
4 ace bandages, various
4-1" rolls durapore tape
2 triangular bandages
2 Izzys
2 quickclots, 50g
coldpack
SAM splint, 4"x36"
(not pictured because it fell off the table while I wasnt looking: duct tape!)
(also not pictured, small medbag with hemostats, tweezers, another pair shears, etc)

My GHB FAK. Will be kept in the trunk along with other GHB gear. Nothing fancy. Made out of stuff laying around the house. (Including the stuff that was used). But its easier to replenish that, then go out and buy FAK items.


Contents. Pretty self explanatory. White pillbox contains Advil and Tylenol.



Shell. Old imitation leather "man purse" , plastic bag with a zipper and a gallon ziplock

Here is my very meager FAK. I keep it in my truck or attach it to the Condor II when hiking/camping....

Any suggestions/comments/criticism would be much appreciated since this is my first attempt at a IFAK.

Well my FAK is basically a standard issue IFAK. Here are the contents:

1 Canteen - For drinking/clensing water on the go
1 Canteen Stand - To use to heat the water if there is time (optional peice)
1 E-Tool - Use for digging to make underground fires, or to make a type of straddle trench
1 Pack Quickclot - Really nasty stuff, only to be used for a last resort
2 Triangular Bandages - Multi-purpose bandage
10 Water purification tablets - What happens if you can't find clean water and it hasn't rained?
1 Waterjel (Burn dressing) - Selfexplanitory
1 Betadine - A type of iodine solution
5 large adhesive bandages - Big bandaids
10 small adhesive bandages - Little bandaids
2 pressure bandages - Very usefull for bad bleeding wounds
2 bandage rolls - Normal gauze bandage
1 tornaquit - Last resort
1 gas mask - Just in case (you never know what may happen
2 packs of matches - need something to start a fire
As many cigs as I can carry - Yes I'm a smoker lol

I keep all of this within an arms reach of my rack, no I'm not highly paranoid, it's just that if something were to happen, (like if a Marine were to fall off 2nd or 3rd deck), I could be there as fast as possible helping out, but then again, you never know when the zombies come storming the gates and I have to have everything together lol

In an effort to save space, I decided to downsize my First Aid Kit. I ended up getting a drop leg style, meant to be hung off a belt and strapped to your thigh, though I don't plan on using that way. Several guys on my Rescue team have them and like them, they just aren't big enough for my needs at work. Here I've split my stuff into two parts, Trauma and Medications.

This is the giant I was out to shrink. I really don't need to carry around an entire box of Bandaids, 6 rolls of Kerlix, etc.

These are the two replacements. A BDU Pocket Pouch and the thigh pack.

The BDU pouch holds pill bottles and med's like Tylenol, Asprin, Burn Gel, Eyewash, Neosporin, I even have a little sunscreen in there. First thing you see when you open it up is a pair of nitrile gloves and safety glasses, that way you can't forget! The outer mesh pocket worked good for small, flat things like Hand Sanitizer, Alcohol Wipes, Iodine Swabs, Hydrocortisone Cream and Bandaids. And of course, a sharpie, writes on everything.

The Trauma Leg Pouch is similar to the Blackhawk Medic Pouch, but about a third of the price. First thing you see when you open it is gloves and a mask. Inside the first half is a pen light, tweezers, hemostat, razor knife (just in case!). Ther next slot is perfect for 4x4s and a couple gel pens, they seem to write better on gloves than a ball point. The third slot of half #1 holds a CPR Mask and Penny Shears.
The second side of the pouch holds Kerlix, Israeli Trauma Dressing, Cold Pack and a Triangle.

The little zippered outer pouch is again good for the little flat stuff I mentioned above.

What I don't have in there yet, is a BP Cuff and stethescope, and I need to pick up some tape.

Bought this bag about 2 years ago and has been on many trips all over the US but so far havent had to use it (no regret at all). It was good for me being a beginner, with very little added to it. The more i keep coming back to this section the more stuff i want to buy. Slowly but surely i will get better but until i am prepared for it (reading and some classes) im not going into trauma supplies yet.

Just picked up a new bag for my FAK at the army surplus store and finally decided to post my basic FAK.





The brand name is FOX or something like that. Saw it in the store for $20 and had to get it even though it's a bit small. I figure if I add more to my FAK I can always get a bigger bag and use that as a trauma kit or something.

Heck Bro! That's where I got most of mine! We had an entire stick crash and burn (winds at GL were 3 gusting to 6, at altitude it was 25 gusting to 35! LOL) and we had two broken legs and another that had arterial bleeding from his mouth and was critical. (He was running with the wind on landing and hit a tree and a branch, knocked out his teeth and penetrated the back of his throat...blood everywhere.)

While the doctors were attending the injured, the medics had us carry out all of the supplies we could. We made a ton of M-3 bags from what we "requisitioned"!

heres my 3 babies beside each other. the large black one is a london bridge trading STOMP, the medium green is a brand new purchase yet to be set up, she is a london bridge trading combat patrol medical pack. finally, the IFAK is the maritime IFAK (their smallest in size) from north american rescue products. all purchased new on ebay for about a third of their retail cost. as you probably know, LBT is not cheap stuff and since i'm not active duty it's overkill, but i am a gear-head after all!

i know i'm forgetting a lot of stuff but i think you get the idea (yes, i have tape and the other basics not listed). the beauty of my kit is the money i spent. i shopped very carefully (mostly ebay) and never paid more than a third of retail. the nonin PO $80, the LBT STOMP $150 (retail $420), HEMCONS $10ea., my only regret is to finance my medical section i took a big hit in the BOB section by selling my eagle becker patrol pack. now i need a new bag! i realize that blackhawk and LBT products are not for everyone but in a non combat setting they will last more than a lifetime. i just try to add on a little at a time and steer clear of cheaper than dirt.(even though their catalog makes for a great read while using the head)
