Could you skip the knife, if you ALWAYS carry one anyway?... or maybe replace with a razor blade?

Btw, nice kit.

Damn. I had a whole bunch of mint tins of various sizes on my desk at work that I'd been collecting for a while. When we moved, I ended up throwing them all away.

Now I'm sad.

I think the only thing I'd really change would be to ditch the knife, assuming you already have one in your pocket as part of your EDC.

Ya know that the WWII reenactors painted Altoids tins, if they couldn't get a real Carlisle dressing container to put in their first aid pouch???

Its not worth carrying day to day, especially if you were ever stopped by a police officer, who would probably lock you up for such a weird combination of items, but it doesn't seem to address any real life day to day issues, unless you're going over a river and through the woods to grandmothers house. But I'm sure you guys will explain what is not obvious to me!

I also like prep redundancy. BIL, Vehicle load, BOB, BOAT. If you have to abandon gear/packs/weapons do to an situation you need to have backups. If you are forced to leave your house, you usually go for the car, car to BOB, ETC. I know your life would be sucking if your down to a BOAT and a side arm but you will be better than without.

As you gear get's sparser you have to rely on your survival training and less on the gear.

The plastic box was worth the buck and I'm interested in seeing if they hold up a little better. I've used altoid boxes for flies before and had them rust a little too quickly (duh, a metal box taken out to a stream where they're bound to get exposed to h2o...). Anyway, I'll eventually finish the prototype and post some pics. That should atone for my lack of "bookmark-fu" (I hope).

If you're talking about the Johnson and Johnson ones that have like 5 band-aids in them and are about the size of an Altoids tin, they suck. I left one out on the floor one evening when I was working on some stuff. Later that evening, *crunch* I'm only like 175, so I was not all that impressed. I'd imagine most plastic boxes would do the same. If you really want to go that route, get a Pelican case, or similar. Plus side is they'd be completely water proof.

Yeah, that's the source - J&J crappy FAKs. They're cheap, they're plastic, but I don't intend to put them through much abuse. They're a test run for some car-BOATs I'm making. Will probably spend their lives in the glove boxes of our vehicles. I have an altoid can or two stashed somewhere for more day-to-day use. Like I said, when I get them put together I'll post some pics and then update as they experience any successes or failures.

I know I'm a little late to this thread but here's what I'd add to get the most out of the little space you've got left.

1) Sewing needle + thread (afterthought: i guess you always use the fishing line as thread)
2) button compass
3) wetwipe single (this has saved my ass "pun intended" more than once)
4) maybe some folded up tin foil

EDIT: Immodium
