Range Time 2012

Postby GR1MSTONE » Tue Feb 14, 2012 4:46 pm

Not sure if the "Range Time" thread was the official shooting thread but it seemed like it was getting kind of stale, might as well start a new one for 2012 anyway right? (if not feel free to put me in my place)

Anyway, I'm about 95% sure I'll be at elm fork shooting range this weekend, probably on Saturday. Got a new AR build and a couple of other things that need to be tested. Anybody down? not sure on the time yet (negotiating with family atm) but hopefully in the late morning around 10. Range link below.

I'll be in Waco this weekend. When I get around to it, I'll modify this thread into the new range time.

I'm about to embark upon the AR build idea with one of the custom ZS lowers.

the last few AR's i put together were with lowers from SOG Armory (not the knife makers). they have a table at pretty much every major gun show. the next FW gun show is march 10-11 and i'm pretty sure they'll be there. they sell many different brands including RR and DPMS. the last one i got was a JD Machine which is a good solid lower with a nice finish on it, they were asking $109.99.

Alert Alert Alert

Well just if your interested & available
Next Saturday 3/3/12 Me & some friends are going out to TacPro.
http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/

Yea it's pretty far out there. 'bout 65 mi. west of Ft. Worth.
It's an all day thing so pack a lunch if your coming. Let me be clear it is in the middle of nowhere :!:
We plan to get there about 09:00 & stay till just about dark. or we run out of ammo. (unlikely 8-) )
I'm finally going to get my Dragon Tongue speaking the accuracy dialect :D
Range fee $15. We'll probably start down on the 50 yed range then move up to the 100/200 range in the afternoon.

A couple of weeks ago, I was hog hunting on a friend's property with my M1A, literally right next door to TacPro. They are right on the other side of the fence from my friend's property. I have to say, it's a little disconcerting when you're in the middle of scoping some deer at a feeder, and you hear long bursts from an M60 just a few hundred yards away......and the deer don't seem to mind.

Unfortunately, I sold the M1A to pay for my new AR-10 SASS.

It's weird how things work. I didn't even know TacPro was there until Draco mentioned it. Now in the last week I've heard it mentioned about 10 times.

That is a nice looking stick. I'd like to have one of those AR-10's also but...........$$$$$
The fact that the deer don't mind the sound of gun fire is just too funny somehow.
It was a good session at the range. My stick is getting in the groove. No I didn't take any pictures of my impressively tight groups......because I did not shoot any impressively tight groups. Someone once said to me that to get "good" at something you need 10,000 repetitions......anybody got 10,000 rounds of 7.62x51 I could barrow :D
Anyway I did get groups I could cover with my hand & I'm ok with that for now. BTW I was able to prove to myself & my buddy that the gun is capable of 1&2 MOA grouping. It is the operator that needs to improve. Now about those 10,000 rounds............ Yesterday marked rounds 143 though 233 that have been through the barrel. Just 9,767 to go & I might get fairly accurate

Now that the Dragons Tongue is shooting pretty straight Hog hunting is next on the agenda. I think I might get to go this coming Thursday. Hope to see if I can get the rubber to meet the road so to speak.

Chris and I will be going to Quail Creek Sunday, 5/20. We'll hit Waffle House in Roanoke on Hwy 114 around 8 and will proceed when we get hype enough on coffee and waffle syrup.

Does anyone remember what Quail Creek's longest rifle ranges are? It'd be nice to shoot somewhere flatter than my place.

100 yds but it seems further when you walk it. And they've expanded the 50 yd lanes to more than just 2. They've actually done some improvements with the place. Still the same range nazis though.

Yeah, not a fan of the range nazis.
For some reason I was thinking that had a 200yd range, but it's been forever since I was there. :/
I'll probably skip it, and 8am is a little too early for me to meet y'all for breakfast, but if you let me know when you're done at the range I might run down and grab some lunch with everyone or something.
