UK source of Daren drums

Postby mattltm » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:18 am

Any one know a good place to buy new daren drums in the UK?

I'm looking for something like a 6L one to take snorkelling with me.

So, you're looking for a 6ltr that won't cost you 20 quid.... I might have one that size that I could let go at a good price

Twenty years ago cavers used to use BDH containers, before that it was ammo cans

I'm looking for a bunch of them in different sizes. But mainly around 3L for a project I am working on and to take snorkelling with me.

Put here for future reference and in case anyone else was looking..

Seems to be the cheapest UK source. Also have some nice storage lockers/boxes to.

Excuse the thread necro, I'm trying to catch up the past 12 months or so!

I've had good service from Powell Mail Order, eg:

... although I'm usually buying stuff for work, so I don't know exactly how they'd respond to a one-off private order.

Ta sheddi,

I also found http://www.key.co.uk/ have a good range.

The ones I have work great for snorkelling. We took them to mexico, stored room keys, wallet, microfibre towel and other junk in them. Tied 30' of paracord to them and clipped the other end to my shorts leaving the drum to float on the surface and follow us around.

We just jumped in a taxi and went snorkelling wherever we wanted without having to leave stuff on the beach.

I also used them for caches. I now have about 5 locations between 5 - 100 miles away (relatives houses and other non public locations) where I have a sealed cache of some food, money, medicine and clothes etc. I'm using the 41.5 Ltr one for most of my caches.

Maybe I should do a write up on what's inside the caches?

Seconded... Also, the idea of where you put them ? Im assuming that you put them on public land and are well hidden ? If so how did you manage the logistics of that ? Don't worry, Im not asking for locations.. however if youre saying 5-100 miles that puts it more or less in the middle between me and you ! haha... fancy a dual BOL ?? :D

None of them are on public land. I didn't want the drama of someone finding one and calling the bomb sqaud!

They are all at relatives homes, workplaces (I look after mutiple buildings) and other, non public locations.

I'll be making another one soon so I'll take pics and do a post. :D
