from what i hear snugpaks temp rating is a bit erm interesting
its set from a 25yr old physicaly fit male wearing base layer inside a tent with another person

army sup sleeping bags aare good if bulky

scouts all survived their distric survival skills camp in febuary most of them using a summer pack

i'll post it up then

Hmm, well im 22, not that physically fit and generally sleep in my skivvies in a one man tent.. so maybe I will look at at snugpak with a lower temp rating.
I was looking at that brand as they seem to be pretty good price wise, which is good when you are a poor apprentice :p

I have a British army arctic bag on my eBay "watch list" with a day to go, so I will see what its on tomorrow :)

Never heard that about Snugpak before man_of_tanith, good to know. I kind of want one for a summer/fall bag so I will bear that in mind!

I use an old British Army one, its down and is toasty in anything down to about -10. Thats the coldest I've had it in and I was still warm then without much issue. Admittedly I wore a balaclava on my face because my head was pretty exposed. For the record I was in a dank house on STANTA so was sheltered from the wind but doesn't have the thermal properties of a tent.

When I was in the mod, the issue dos-bag was good but did not compress enough, hence the nick name : Bouncing Bomb! but the best investment I made was a softee 9 sleeping bag, did me all over the UK, Bosnia and Canada, so its fine for use in our beloved isle.

I've slept out in my issue doss bag in -9, in a hasty harbour (so No Basha) upon on Catterik. Was fine, untill I got out of the bag for my turn on Stag.

Makes me need a stiff drink just recalling. Good times.

Was looking at the Nanok Endurance -10C as well, seems to get good reviews. Want something that will last a few years and will cover our weather, so I guess I just need to do some more research on what one to buy..

I was going to buy an axe and/or a folding saw, I have a Mora for a fixed blade knife. Don't really want to go to the local woods, its near a slightly chavvy area..

saw is awesome choice
never experienced the axe personal preferance is for a wooden handle as it is easier to replace if damaged but that one looks good

I've used it once or twice. It's serviceable, but you might be able to get a much better axe in a 2nd hand tool shop, for the same price.

I don't know of any second hand tool shops near me, I will have a look though. :)
Was also looking at the Gerber sport axe, which is the same as the Fiskars one, just smaller.

The Fiskers one is good for the money. I have one that's been worked hard and is still going.

Better QC than the Gerber IMO.

The saw is a fine choice, I'd personally buy this as an axe...... but then I'm a BOF with a fondness for Kents

Plastic handles on axes are one of my pet hates, you damage a wooden one you can see its sick (and replace it, in the shed if not the field). Your basic GRP will just go with little to no warning (mind you, I don't trust glassfibre arrows)

Builder's tea for me please
I'm English, our Government doesn't trust us to have real guns........or decent pocket knives for that matter
Good job theres no such thing as a Trebuchet licence :D

Evening all.

Sorry about the poor service, but I just can’t seem to shake this bug and I have been busy looking for more work. Have I missed anything interesting?
