Apocalypse which airs on Channel 4 this Friday looks intriguing.
He has duped a volunteer into believing that he is living through the outbreak of a Zombie Apocalypse, with only a few fellow survivors.
Are any of you guys going to watch it?

I can only assume that the volunteer is kept free of firearms and weapons during the 'experiment'. You wouldn't want any accidental blunt force traumas to the head.

I can only assume he'll be given blank firing firearms that look real enough to fool a novice. Derren Brown's done that sort of thing before.

This will be fun.

I don't particularly like his schtick, but the one where he convinced a dude playing a zombie shooter arcade game that it was *actually* happening was most emlightening

funny too

Derren Brown gets on my nerves a bit, but I really want to see what the guy does.
Maybe he'll join ZS

Why the Derren Brown hate?

He's great I think - though I base most of my opinion off his book Tricks of the Mind. Highly recommended reading.

To me anyway, Derren Brown is probably only able to legally shoot it here due to:
His (so far) unblemished success with pulling these stunts.
Also the fact that cross-bows, katanas and other offensive weapons are so strictly legislated against. The subject shouldn't easily be able to access a weapon and physically attack a Zombie.

I didn't declare hate, I just dislike the man of mysterious intent style he started out with, which was a necessity given his projected audience - at least he's not as bad as david blaine.

Since he started making the programs based more on 'how I actually do this stuff' I've come to like him a lot more

Not so much hate with me as just he grates on my nerves slightly, like a splinter.
I must look up that book, never heard of it.

From what I've seen, I think everything is going to happen in a carefully controlled environment, with actors and special effects and people ready to intervene at a moments notice. If he grabs a Katana, it's because he was meant* too.

Derren Brown is a Magician and Mentalist in the style of James Randi and Penn and Teller, it's all a trick, we know it's a trick, but it's a bloody good trick.

I wonder whether if at the very back of his mind, the volunteer remembered that he had applied to be in a Derren Brown set up.
It's amazing how suggestible people can be.

SUPPOSEDLY... or so I am led to believe its "easily led" people (read into that what you will...) that are easy to hypnotise.. according to a hypnotist I talked to..

I do remember the words "weak willed" springing to mind... but either way Im going to watch the show.. and record it on the Sky box as well just in case.. The ad looks pretty good.. just have to wait and see what suprises he springs. Should be fun.
Somewhere, somehow, someones going to be smashing zombies.....

Did any of you watch it?
I just did so today. It was interesting, but I think the next episode is where the main bulk of the action takes place.
But so far they've definitely made it a realistic experience for the guy.

I've watched the two episodes now and feel somewhat underwhelmed. But as an exercise in testing someone's mettle, it was interesting enough.

As I watched it I was wondering why Steve wasn't asking questions about the infection, ie its transmission, what it does to those who have it etc. Also if its just England that was exposed to the infection :?
But I had to consider the fact that he was in shock and at that early stage was focussed on trying to stay alive. Going outside to walk to Wales and finding the infected miraculously gone was such a huge relief that he didn't question this.

I don't think it was a fake, it could easily have been but that's an M. Night. Shyamalan-esque twist too far.

It was entertaining enough, more so from the appreciation of the lengths they went to to make it but for me a couple of things spoiled it - one was the over emphasis on Steve learning life lessons and making decisions when he really did'nt do very much other than get dragged around the set by a supposed 14 year old girl and agree with other people when they made obvious statements. The other was the incredibly bad soldier/paramedic actor - all he reminded me of was Fish from Marillion as he is now, old, bald and fat! Best scene was at the end when they were sheltering in the bunker and it cut to an outside shot of the "zombies" forming up and trooping off set - hilarious!
He either fears his fate too much,
Or his deserts are small,
Who dares not put it to the touch,
To win or lose it all.

Yeah I agree that less emphasis on how it was all for Steve's benefit and greater focus on the dramatic aspects would have been better.
Also the Scottish guy reminded me of that actor who's been in Hollyoaks, Merlin and the Yellowstone Mega Volcano docudrama from a few years back.
I haven't seen a recent photo of Fish from Marillion, but I still have my brothers cassette of Misplaced Childhood rattling around somewhere :D
