Postby Big B » Sat Apr 07, 2012 3:39 pm

Updated 08-05-2012

Location: North Cascades National Park Goodell Creek Campground
Dates: August 17th-19th.
Cost/Donations needed: Campsties are $10 per night, per site.
Addtional Notes: I'm planning on being out there around noon on Friday the 17th. You can show up later than that though. Don't feel like you have to hurry to leave on the 19th, but if you stay another night you will probably be on your own. Directions and an exact location will be coming soon.

I know it might seem a little early to start planning, but my summer schedule is already quickly filling up.

So, where do we want to go? What do we want to do? It seems we usually do this in August, is that still best for everyone? What week/weekend works for everyone?

I like the idea of going back to Ross Lake and maybe staying at Big Beaver. This way people can either hike in from SR 20, boat/ferry in, or do a combo of hiking and boating to get to the campsite. Staying on Lake Diablo was fun last year, but I would prefer going back to Ross.

This is just my opinion on where to go though. There are a lot of great places in our state to camp/hike/fish/Summergeddon at, so let’s hear what you guys think.

ETA: The date is set for August 17th - 19th.

Summergeddon XII: Let's start planning

Postby DrGonzo » Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:05 am

I'm in. Ross was fun, preferably one the close to the boat launch. Lightning Creek is too far out, though.

BTW, I think the Oregon chapter may want to team up for this, so maybe a south end trip may be in order.

White water rafting on the White Salmon River, or any river for that matter, followed by some camping and boozing, and testing out your preps of course....

It's only 1 1/2 hrs east of Portland, so they could join.

That sounds awesome! :D
My brother-in-law lives in Portland, and I'm sure he would want to join us for this.

Speaking of rafting... and joining forces, here's some option from Oregon:

1) Me and my family (Roxxors side) do an annual river rafting trip. Last year we did a 4 day trip up the Deschuttes. Was awesome. We are planning this year's trip now and are still open. My Brother in Law, Russell, is the head guy on the family trip though. We can combine it all up into a Gabe's Family trip/ZSC011 trip/ZSC005 Summergeddon though. We were looking at mid August, maybe early September.

2) ZSC011 Summergeddon will be a short backpacking trip up past Bagby Hotsprings in a half mile onto the Silver Lake Falls trail. We did it last year late Summer (end of Sept) and it was awesome. Bushcrafters dream. Scurvy made a frying pan for the trout he caught, I and Treacle made a cover for our fire pit that radiated heat out, all the youngins were wondering how to talk to the chicks 2 miles in, hot spring nearby with tubs, enough to teach you how heavy all that shit is on your back but not too long of a trip to crush you.

We are far enough out time-wise now that we can be flexible.

OK!! First things first - we need to pick a date. Mid to late August or very early September usually works best. This will be a three day, two night trip if we stick with tradition. Don't ask us to accommodate your schedule unless you're pretty certain you will attend. That being said, if you're pretty set on attending, but need us to accommodate your schedule, please ask.

OK Guys, I will be out of town from August 21 until September 7 for a hunting trip to Alaska. Please DO NOT schedule around this. But if it is any other weekend I will be able to attend. I vote for finding a place over the mountains somewhere we have not yet been.

I'll have family staying with me in early August. I'm not 100% sure on the dates, still waiting to hear back from my sister, but I will be unavailable while they are in town.

My guess is the first week of August wont work for me.

Aug 11 is no good (Washington State Guard Drill), but I'm good for any other weekend in Aug. I like Ross Lake as long as it's not Lightning Creek again (too far). I'm fine with any other location as well.

This works for me. Just let me know where, I love the suggestions so far.
I am making Summergeddon a priority event this year, I'm so pissed that I missed it last year.

Ditto dates, Ape Caves for me...
Or just some straight up, all inclusive car camping.
Not down with taking a 3 hour drive to a dock, to a ferry, to a mule, to a forced march...

I do like the idea of making this a rafting trip, but that woud necessitate meeting up at the same time, and leaving as a group. If someone wanted to come late or leave early, they would be forced to catch up to a moving target. So, I think that is an un-workable idea for summergeddons. We need a camp that can be reached late and left early, if necessary, which requires a fixed location.
I'm good on any of the mentioned dates, and at any of the mentioned locations (Ross, Ape, or new). Boney is gone, but I can bring the Pyrate and a phone cord wrapped Katana if necessary.

I missed Summergeddon and Wintergeddon last year. This year I must attend, or else I lose my parking space at ZS headquarters. Incorporating the Oregon chapter is a great idea.

Well, Oregon sounds like they've already made plans, but at least we've locked down a date.

August 17th - 19th it is.

So I've heard calls for the eastside...somewhere, but I have no eastside camping experience, so I wouldn't have the first idea of where to look.

Is there any good camping in the snoqualmie area? That would be super-convenient.

I really just want some place that's scenic, and not full of RVs. Fishing would be a plus.

17th-19th should work for me. I like Ross Lake. We could stay at Big Beaver, which is much closer to the resort & dam.

Beav: Does Tacoma count?

All: There some interesting looking spots in the Snoqualmie area, around Leavenworth, Roslyn, Cle Elum. Do some google searching and post if you find anything interesting. I found some spots, but there aren't a lot of good pictures, and from what I've seen they are full of stupid old growth trees  which are tough to hang a hammock from.

Tacoma is close enough as well. :D Growing up in the NW we used to do a lot of camping at Riffe Lake. Havent been there in years, but when we would go there it was a blast. Close enough to town (morton) for beer runs, yet far enough away to shoot with no worries. Plenty of good fishing, and if you have a boat you could camp out on the islands that dot the lake.
