WSG drill is on 06JAN2012 at the Seattle Armory, Do you already have a WSG contact? If you need a contact, I can put you in touch with my 1SGT or with MSG Stickney, from there they can help you. It would be great to meet you folks, but I'll be at Camp Murray to support the Selective Service System detachment. If you need some assistance please email me at jbrowerus at yahoo dot com.

I shall be there, I was rather impressed with the people I met during the December drill. Getting my paperwork together a bit at a time...

Is it acceptable to show up at the drill as an observer and to get more information? I have some interest in joining.

Thanks.

That's how I did it, now I have permission to "drill" until my app is approved.

Yup. Same thing that I am doing. Next drill is 11 Feb at the Camp Murray facility. Lesson plan is buddy care/first aid, I believe.

Been googling (yeah, it's a verb) State Defense Forces (SDFs) all afternoon. There is a lot of good/bad/horrendously batshit crazy stuff online about different SDFs, although most of the negatives were from people with no actual firsthand experience. I found a very interesting article regarding the history and current role of SDFs, along with recommendations on how to expand the forces and better utilize them as a homeland security and disaster response resource.

http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2010/10/the-21st-century-militia-state-defense-forces-and-homeland-security

IS-100 is in the bag (no email confirmation yet, though), IS-200 sometime this week.

SEADA confirmed
AT1 confirmed

Basic MEMS:
IS-100.b confirmed
IS-200.b awaiting cert
IS-275 doesn't exist
IS-292 doesn't exist

IS-700 is .a?
IS-800 is .b?

WTF? Are there alternates or what?

http://www.hsi.wa.gov is also referenced and doesn't exist.

Had a great training session last Saturday at Camp Murray. We had an accelerated, hands-on presentation of the Army's Combat Lifesaver Course. CPR, patient assessment, splints, bandages, CAT tourniquet demonstration, using an NPA (nasopharyngeal airway) tube, and how to make an occlusive dressing for sucking chest wounds and intestinal evisceration. I've taken a lot of first aid courses, and this is the first time I ever saw someone shove a six in tube up their nose and down their throat!

DZF and I were also sworn in. He's an E-7 and I'm just a lowly E-4. We'll have to do some shaving to get into regs! I think it's going to be a good fit, the command has a clear mission in mind, and are working very hard to get all of the members trained up for EOC work. I've met some really cool people, and I look forward to being involved for a long time.

Feels weird wearing ACUs, though.

Good to meet you both,
I think you guys are going to be a great asset.
If I can be of any assistance as you transition in, let me know.
Good course, always fun to learn how to insert an NG airway. I think the pvt was really trying too!

Did you guys get squared away on the MEMS courses?
Here is the current course list out of the MEMS handbook December 2011 version.

a. IS100 Introduction to Incident Command System (NIMS)
b. IS200 Basic Incident Command System (NIMS)
c. IS775 Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
d. IS701 Multi-agency Coordination Centers (NIMS)
e. IS700 National Incident Management System (NIMS)
f. IS800b National Response Framework(NIMS)
g. IS102 Establishing Partnerships

The handbook is in the WSG MEMS folder on AKO.
Let me know if you need any help.

Meh, I can lose the goatee for one day a month. It's an incentive for me to lose weight, it's been cunningly hiding my double chin for the past several years.

Yeah, shaving sux...
Got everything but the name tapes.
The Propper uniforms don't have the IR "buttons", so that's next - not that I need them...

"Knee deep" in the courses, so I can do the LNO Course on the 3rd/4th.

I'll probably skip the IR tags. If I'm in a live fire situation with the WSG, there are a lot bigger problems to worry about! I got two Velcro nametapes, the Washington tape, patrol cap rank and reverse color flag for around $18 with shipping from 1800NAMETAPES.com. About half of the cost as from other online dealers.
