RedCell -- Firewood is more than covered. I have a large pile left over from clearing some of the property that I will be challenging us all to burn through over the course of the event. As far as fishing goes there is nothing I can offer in my backyard. There are the Stillaguamish and Skagit rivers close by both being less than 8 miles away.

Jwookie55 -- Many of us will have Jetboil stoves and the like. I am collecting as many lare rocks as I can for a fire ring and to use as makeshift hot plates. I.E. place to large rocks not too far apart and out of the main fire to then scoop coals underneath for heating pots and pans. So you should be covered. I ould still bring some MREs though. Some people may not have had the excellent opportunity to sample our government's finest and most revered cuisine!!!

Also just so everyone knows it looks like there will be enough people to create a parking issue this year. So if anyone can carpool, please do. And when you do show up, please come and find me so I can direct the most compact parking of everyone possible. If it gets really bad I may have to ask some to park at the park and ride that is about a mile away and ferry you back and forth as needed. I hope it does not come to that but we will see.

If anyone still needs directions please let me know.

zulu5oscar -- I haven't forgotten to contact you as you asked. I will try to call you today and tonight as well as tomorrow if I cannot get you today.

Black November,
I'll bring the mattress. It's like new, no leaks.

Jwookie55,
I've got an extra alcohol stove kit + fuel I will bring, weighs nil.

Thanks for having firewood for us Meantree.
Bummer on the fishing! although 8 miles isn't much knowing there is steelhead waiting for us.

I will be home Friday at about 3 pm. Remember that sunset is about 4:30 and if it is overcast it will be dark by then. So you may have to set up in the dark if you get there after that. I think that we will have enough lights that we can spot light who ever needs to have assistance though. Just something else to think about.

As for the end of things, I would think that before dark on Monday we should all be packed up and policed the area. Anyone disagree?

Building those little soda can stoves is easy. I'll bring my dremel and you guys can can go-to-town with all my empty beer cans.

Maybe we'll even make it a skill builder!

The real question is can someone turn one into a tent heater :?:

[quote="MEANTREE"]Make sure to check out the video.

I like the part where the main selling point is how *green* it is to cook with alcohol, and how burning alcohol doesn't 'doesn't harm the environment like petroleum based fuels'. **Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight** We can discuss this over the weekend if anyone really cares to know the differences. So, then he goes on to explain that you typically cook with HEET or denatured alcohol, which both contain Methanol (which is toxic and can kill you) and maybe worse (acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, and denatonium...).

Normally I would recommend using common rubbing alcohol (isopropanol), which indeed does work, but it is typically diluted with 30% water which does you no good, especially if you are trying to cut weight for a backpack. It also probably puts out about 30% less heat anyway. So what to use? Look for Iso-Heet which is made by the same company, but comes in the red bottle instead of the yellow bottle. It is 99% isopropanol. The other 1% is 'Proprietary Additive' which I would guess is again Methanol.. :(

Anyhow, my point is, the guy on ebay has something to sell, but be careful what fumes you inhale  especially inside a tent.

Thanks for that. It is more obvious now that I was speaking from textbook knowledge, not experience. I can see why someone would prefer the regular heet over iso-heet.

Denatured alcohol though, just doesn't make sense to me because it is usually 90% ethanol and 10% methanol. Why add the 10% methanol and make it toxic? 100% ethanol on its own is plenty useful for lots of things :-)

In any case, I will stick with my propane and propane accessories..

So, back on topic. What NON-bug out gear are you bringing to make the trip more bearable? Here are a few items I'm bringing that I don't normally have in the BOB or even in the trunk:

Beer
Tent
Lawn chair
Dog and dog accessories
cheap entertainment..

cheers :)

Just so everyone knows, I WILL NOT BE HOME UNTIL 3 PM. So please arrive at that time or after. My neighbors know that we will all be there but I am not sure they will be kosher with people being there without me or the wife being there. So please hold off until 3. There is a nice little place at the 212 exit called Johnny Burger that reportedly has some good grub. At the earliest I would say to get there at 2 because I will be trying my hardest to make it home that early. But I really need to arrange the parking situation and lay out the boundaries for what is there before anyone sets up and then may later have to move.
