An emergency mylar space blanket layer between your sleeping bag and your hamock, bivy sack, or ground tarp is also a great way to keep you nice and toasty while you sleep. The shiny side toward you reflects 95% of your body heat.

Give the search function a try. You will most likely find much more info than we would be able to devote in this thread.

Details to follow on original post (OP) - "Bring on the suck!"

Should we decide to do a WINTERGEDDON X patch, fee free to steal that tag line...

The wife is now stylin' in her '05 Sport-Trac, so firewood won't be such a PITA, and 4x4LOW will be very handy!

Our Chapter has come along way since the beginning, and I know that Wintergeddon X will be a legendary event that will separate the hard core preppers from the partime B.O.B.bers.

With the power vested in me I now declare the date for Winterggedon X:

Jan 15th through Jan 18th (Open Ended)

Let there be a date!!!!!

Nah, gotta keep it that way for those of us that are part of the "...this doesn't suck enough" club.
Besides, that way if someone complains we can say we warned them!

Ahh, good point Fred, didn't think of it that way. Dates sound good to me currently, hopefully my schedule doesn't conflict later.

As far as the snow parks, I know there is one just south of Mt. Rainier, that is also national forest. The only thing with the snow parks is you are supposed to get a snow park pass, I think you can get them from the forestry office, before you can use / park at the snow park. Not exactly sure what the "snow park" entails because I've only been around there in the summer, I imagined it was for like snowshoeing and building snow forts, because when I think park, I think snow forts.

For those of you new to this, last year was based off of a localized TEOTWAWKI event - 7.0+ on the Seattle Fault.
This forced a North bound Egress.
If done right, you will be cold, wet, tired and at least one thing will fail.
If not, you should be doing Artic Expeditions for a living.

Our guys in Alaska are probably laughing their asses off, and would casually sit poolside drinking Mai-Tai's in this kind of weather.

But for the rest of us I promise you it's freakin cold. :(

/start soapbox

I would like to clarify this a bit.. but only because there is a possibility someone's life may depend on it. There are several types of heat transfer, the most common of which being radiant, convective, and conductive. Radiant is like the heat you feel coming off a light bulb, a campfire, or the sun. Its basically just UV rays, travels very fast, feels good, gives you a tan. The other two are like whats in your oven or on your stove, can heat your core body temp. The aforementioned mylar sheets are great for retaining the radiant heat, but do little to retain conductive heat, and are barely moderate in dealing with convective heat (trap the warm air around you). So, in editing the above statement, I would state the following:

"The shiny side toward you reflects 95% of your radiant body heat." There is a reason they are used as 'emergency blankets' but are never used as regular blankets at home.. because they are 'good, but not that good'. That, and they rustle a lot..

Read the link provided if you are confused. This is all mentioned in the wiki.

/end soapbox

MLK weekend :-) looking fwd to it, still researching locations par excellence
(edited to clarify links etc.. )

In which case you could be cold, wet, tired and have things failing all around, you just won't care.
That'll work!

So I'm all over the Wintergeddon x thing,
May I suggest:

1/14/10 5:03pm.
Coming through the front door of his apartment, John dropped his jacket on his chair, grabbed the remote and turned on the news. “Hey Sweetie” he called to the kitchen,
”I’m home”. “The end of another long day!” he thought as he sat down on the couch. From the chair came a woof and a one eyed look that told him the dog under the jacket wasn’t thrilled at the idea of waking up. Sarah stuck her head around the corner “hey you, chicken in about 15 minutes. Keep me company and tell me about your day?” she said with a smile. “Ok” he groaned. Glancing at the TV as he stood, he noted the President was speaking about terrorism. He watched as the picture vanished and the TV screen turned to snow. Several things happened at the same time. There was a tremendous flash of light, the apartment started shaking hard from ground movement, the front window shattered, a horrendous explosion of sound, and then came a hot wind that blew thru like a hurricane. John was knocked back on the couch to watch the chaos unfold. Unable to take it all in, he watched a vase tumble from the coffee table as if in slow motion and bounce on the carpet. The whole process seemed to stretch for, minutes then silence.
“What the hell!” John thought, as he stood with some difficulty, his legs felt like rubber. As he looked around, the damage was amazing, anything that could fall had, “good thing we ‘quake proofed the apartment”, he said. There was no answer. “Sarah!” he called out in fear. Clearing a path thru the debris like a bulldozer he rounded the corner into the kitchen to see his wife kneeling on the floor holding her head. Instinct and first aid training kicked in as he dove to her side. He gently shook her and called her name. “I’m ok, I’m ok” she responded, her breathing seemed normal. “No visible bleeding”, he thought to himself. “Really I’m ok” she said, “what was that, what happened?” “I don’t know, are you sure your alright?” he ask. She nodded then put her head on his chest and her arms around him. He held her tightly as the fear and relief flowed over him.
”Hey lady lets see what happened,” he said as he ‘rose, helping his wife to her feet.
They maneuvered their way thru the living room toward the now empty window.” Careful Hun, watch the glass,” he told her as they made their way to the opening. As John looked out, his neighbors were fleeing their apartments and milling about in the courtyard below. Most seemed ok, some were obviously hurt. The buildings appeared to be solid, though most were missing windows. He realized there were a large number roof shingles on the normally pristine grounds. John’s eyes moved upwards toward the roofline to the south. What caught his attention was not the missing shingles; it was the oddly shaped red tinged cloud growing in vast proportions. It took a moment for his mind to grasp what he was truly seeing; it was a mushroom cloud where Seattle had been.

A Jericho scenario. According to a map that Hawkins had,
Seattle was one of the city's taken out by a, low yield truck mounted nuke, At the port of Seattle.

Wintergeddon is a love/hate relationship.

Nobody wants to go to Wintergeddon, we just do because we secretly enjoy the abuse.

I came across a decent website that seems to have some good info for those that have not failed at cold weather camping as I have (really, really failed). Here is the link: http://www.three-peaks.net/coldcamp.htm. I really believe the portion titled "Tips for Comfortable (and Safe) Winter Camping" is the most appropriate portion. The others seem to be geared for Scout troops. Anyway just thought I would share for those who are considering and have never attempted the Wintergeddon Experience.
