I'll be there Saturday AM/early afternoon, depending what time I get on the road.

Who's planning on staying Sunday night?

Unsure of which days I'll go, no car pooling then? (I'm fairly close to you, MarkTaff, I think.) My vehicle needs to be fixed by removing the radiator cap and putting a new vehicle under it :P Also, ZS Comms? 2M or 70cm maybe?

I am in Burien now, not Bellevue. If you live in Burien or points South, I can give you a ride, but I am heading down there early Thursday afternoon (1-ish), and may not come back until Monday sometime.

ZS comms are GMRS 5-05.

Oh, well, till I get a newer vehicle I'm a lil paranoid about this monster getting there, much less BACK, LOL - Maybe something'll work out. Last weekend I drove down to Maple Valley for a camping trip, so some distance's OK. I just dunno about all the way there and back.

I used to go up to our camping site to reserve it when doing Search & Rescue stuff on Tuesday or Wed., and head home Sunday. Been camping-free TOO long, that's like not breathing for me. Getting back to able to get into the outdoors, finally.

I will probably have to pay for everything when I get our campsite, so don't pay for anything until after you check in with me.

If I remember correctly it is an open parking lot and about a 100ft to the camp site.

Ok. I finally resolved the technical difficulties with my ZS account. I can post on the forums again.

In the next few days, I will upload some pics of Summergeddon and an After Action Report.

First off, no I am not a park ranger. :)

I enjoyed the little camp out and had a lot of laughs at the stories.

What I learned.
ZS5 has some pretty cool members, I can see why the friendships are pretty strong. Thanks for welcoming me!
My shelter system works fine for 3 seasons, not so sure about how it would do in winter though.
The MSR stakes did not fit into the grommets of my shelter.
The magnesium fire block is NOT really worth its weight or the effort.
I still bounce back fairly well after a night of sleeping on the ground.

Looking forward to future events!

Apparently Coho Campground is the most popular place on earth since they paved the road leading to it and started taking online reservations. The overflow spot we had was pretty good, but not as good as the old group site. Plenty of room for hammocks and no one really bothered us. Only rained the Friday night, so got a little soggy setting up, but there was some good conversation and beer by flashlight under a too-small tarp that first night. The rest of the weekend saw more faces, with great skill-builders and gear demos. Pasha gave a great primitive fire-making class (we all suck, bring lighters), BlackNovember made pizza over the fire with handmade dough, and we definitively proved that you can boil water in a plastic water bottle over a fire. Video to follow.

Good times, long drive, great people. As usual. :D

For those of you interested in the shelf stable homemade pizza dough recipe: (Recipe makes 3 large pizzas)

Image

Combine the shelf stable ingredients in a bag below:
3 1/2 cups of Whole wheat flour (Leave some extra in a separate bag for handling)
3/4 tablespoon of granulated yeast or 1 packet
1/2 tablespoon of kosher salt or course sea salt
1/8 cup of Bob's vital wheat Gluten (I think we get it at Fred Meyer or Safeway)
------------------------
When ready to prepare, mix in the following and set aside for 2 hours to rise:
1 3/4 cup of Luke warm water (About 40% of a Nalgene Bottle)
1/4 cup of olive oil (one mini bar liquor bottle)

Sauce
To make the dehydrated marinara sauce:
Dehydrator-lay a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper down over a dehydrator rack.Pour jar of marina over rack and spread evenly. dehydrate for 12 hours on 150. To Re-hydrate just add water (maybe a 1/3 of a Nalgene bottle) and stir until it thickens back into sauce form.

This can also be done in and oven but you may have to Google the times

Rolling out the dough
Use the extra flour to prevent things from sticking, and roll out dough on a pizza stone or pan.

Toppings
Whatever you like. Enjoy

We also proved that you can boil water in a regular plastic water bottle.

I used to have some of those cloak pins, hopefully someone knows a good source for those.

Hoping in a few months to have a better car so I can drive further afield, then I can put the current car out of my misery.

Lessons learned for boiling water in a plastic water bottle:

Keep the cap on the bottle so it boils faster, but poke a small hole in the lid to relieve pressure. Because it is a thermoplastic, the bottle will deform as it heats up, reducing the volume inside. Therefore, only fill the bottle about 2/3 full otherwise the water will overflow as the bottle deforms. The bottom of the bottle should be a couple of inches above the maximum flame height. I think it took us about 1.2 hours to boil that water, but most of that time was wasted due to me being too cautious by keeping the bottle too far from the flames.

The bottle we used was one of the really flimsy ones, not the sturdier type like Dasani-brand water bottles.

If you follow these tips, I would estimate you could raise about the temperature of 450 mL of water at 68 degrees F to 212 degrees F with ambient temperature of 68 degrees F in about 30 minutes.

My source for the cloak pins is home depot. The copper ground wire is about a buck a foot. Just bend it to shape and hammer the parts you want flat and file any rough edges.
