Funny blog about priority in preps

Postby PistolPete » Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:32 pm

It's easy to focus on the stuff you really enjoy when you are trying to become more self-sufficient and better prepared. Some people like guns, some like food storage, myself, I'm a backpack whore. 8)

I read this blog earlier, and I think it's quite pertinant and good advice for those of us who are trying to prioritize preps. I thought I'd share it with ya'll.

Stop Preparing for the Apocalypse and Plan For Next Thursday
Angry Peasants, musings on guns and the state of our world

Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.

I loled. And Regular Guy: Try searching the website's URL in google, and seeing if the result has a "View Cached" button next to it, and click it. This is usually not filtered, although the format may be altered, all the text will still be there.

I saw that the other week when it was posted.

Here's one from the archives that's just as good:

Murph, can you post the title of this blog so I can search it on their site? My system is filtered so I have to do some round abouts to get to stuff.

Nice Link. I think I've seen that picture here, and that he's posted here before. It'd be funny if the noob-hunters ran him off - he mentions that happening when he's posted on "survival forums."

Good advice, but he could use someone to proofread his work.

Just sayin'.

Wow. That guy has absolutely nailed it. Just put his whole damn blog in the Hall Of Fame, if not in the Introductions section, or a part of the Terms and Conditions you have to agree to have read when you sign up here.

FanaticalModerate....what's this guy's handle on ZS?

Now if you'll excuse me I need to go spend a whole lot of time reading about and discussing barter items in the PAW and what happens if your group doesn't want you around after a botched rescue attempt of a couple of captive community members that were taken by a group of raiders or something.

Hey.....better idea: Let's make this guy an Arbiter of WWYD. :D

Good article with decent advice.

A great quote from the article:

This is the problem with many people in the survival community; they are hot-shit squared away when it comes to being prepared for natural and man-made disasters. But when it comes to practical daily living they are a bigger train wreck than their neighbors who only have 4 days of food in their houses.

Being prepared means being prepared to live a long and happy life in the real world as well as playing Mad Max in some PAW.

Awesome post with some really good advice

My only suggestion would be that you should have posted this in the Firearms sub-forum.

Good stuff, prepare for what is likely first, less likely next.

One thing though, saying the US (or other first world nation) will never have this or that happen to it, because A and B... I kinda cant get on that train. Do those factors make it unlikely? Sure... But there were factors that made the civil war, the depression, the dust bowl, the wars involving all of europe, and the killing fields unlikely to. But sometimes unlikely shit happens. Just ask lottery winners

Oh yeah... But REALLY, he is right, dont be that gun hoarding, paranoid, doesnt bathe enough, antisocial survivalist stereotype... My father in law, he uh... well, just dont be that!

I did a quick search and found James_G with the same picture - a few posts quite awhile ago. But I recall reading something more recently than those, and that the author seemed to be this fellow ...just impressions though - nothing concrete.

Same vein of thought as this thread I did a while back. I've been meaning to go back and clean it up more, but I've been too scatterbrained lately.

First thing I did when starting to 'prep' was become debt free.

I agree with that blog post totally.

I DO need to work on a 'second job skill'... I should prob look into blacksmithing, that could be both fun, interesting and provide an income.

Second job skill? I'm still working on a first job skill.

I don't regret spending four years in the military but I just wish I had chosen a job that would have been useful in civilian life. Now I'm parking cars(miserable) while I go to school. At least I have my GI bill so when I finish school I'll still have no debt.

I hate to admit it but I'm the guy that always talks about politics and preparedness. I'm a one trick pony and I recognize that my social life suffers for it. I only have two friends and neither of them are female  . I'm tired of beating my head against the wall trying to convince people that peace and prosperity are NOT assured aspects of American life. I just HAVE TO ACCEPT that most people can't be reached. They've been conditioned to embrace dependency and value conspicuous consumption for DECADES. I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I'm with you here. It's unlikey that just about everything in history has taken place. That means that there is a good chance that something very unlikely will happen again. It may not be a flu, economic collapse or an asteroid, it may be something we can't forsee happening. That's really the essense of prepping.
