This is my first post on this site. I am impressed with the inginuity and fortatude of the people here. I usually can be found in SteelSoliders BUG OUT thread, They discontiued that thread. I am glad to be here.

I've been reorganizing to move much of our storage into a small spare bedroom (the cat room).

This is our everyday usage area, it's in the kitchen though.

Spices, also in kitchen.

We dispense the spices in Coke bottles with corks.

Random storage in the kitchen, mostly teas.

Staples in the cat room.

This is all storage related stuff; jars, bottles, tubs, bags etc. Sorted by type.
oh, and 1 Spud.

Using the kitty litter tubs is an AWESOME idea. Now I'll start going ahead and getting the big tubs knowing I have an awesome use after they are empty!

Just a note about the tubs, as far as I know, they are not food safe. We use them for supplies only. But yeah, I LOVE them. When we have guests, I put them on the ground under a mattress and use them for the support. Takes like 2 minutes.

I wish Arm & Hammer litter came in those. I think we tried Tidy Cat and it sucked compared to A&H.

Reorganized my food and ammo stockpile on leave. Still way behind on the food preps compared to most people here, but it's a major improvement over the last pics.

Dehydrated food and MREs


Shelf two is canned foods and energy bars (in ammo can), shelf three is rice and canning salt.


Sugar and more MREs.


Sorry for the bad pictures, it's hard to take a good one with as little room as in the closet.

Wow. Alpha - your shelves look like they're stressed to near the point of failure. You might consider reinforcing them, or replacing them with something stronger.

That's partially a weird camera trick due to taking the picture so close, and partially due to the fact that I used the plastic shelf to hold ammo for four months, and it still hasn't recovered. Replacing it is on my list, but for right now, it works.

Has anyone heard of Keystone Meats, in Lima, Ohio? They sell 28 oz cans of beef, chicken, turkey and pork, 5 year shelf life and these are meat: not a lot of grease & gravy like a lot of canned meats, but just cooked meat and some juice. Might be worth checking out.
Also- would this be the appropriate spot for posting a like to my youtube video about my apocalypse bag?

BTW, people who are storing home-canned goods in jars or other breakable containers- you might want to put some bungee cords or just plain ropes around the shelves to keep your jars from sliding off. Ground shock or a significant impact to the house- Say, a vehicle crashing into it, or a bomb going off nearby, etc- could send your carefully preserved foods sliding off the shelves. Not only messy and a waste of food, but broken glass everywhere. A word to the wise.

Here goes with my little lot.. all sorts is on there from toiletries to foods to water... not brilliantly stacked as of yet but plastic boxes are en route as I type.. dontcha love internet shopping when youre overseas ??









Just the one rack at the moment but the one to the right with all the car type stuff on is going to be shifted and filled with preps when I get home...

Don't store our food in a garage. Most garages are not well insulated and the temp extremes will drastically shorten the shelf life of your stored food.

I thought about that, in fact I started insulating my garage. I will install a Dehumidifier (the humidity in the air is pretty high). So I hope in the end I could use my garage as a storage "room". Thank you anyways for the advice!

We have a cold cellar room with at least a month's worth of food (there are 3 of us), plus an additional month of food in MREs, Mountain House meals, ramen/dry soup mixes, instant rice dishes, water, etc. (on the right side of the cellar) and a full pantry upstairs. Here is a pic of part of our food storage cellar taken a couple months ago (I have been trying to rotate the stock lately, and we recently put more in there).

Were running out of storage space and I've always wanted to make a bed frame tall enough to store stuff under.....then I figured I could do it without building anything.

box spring and sheet thing goes on top of the buckets. Sheet thing hides buckets and makes everything look nice. Also added kitchen drawer liner to the top of the buckets to stop the box spring from sliding.

Most cans say not more than a year maybe two.

Quite longer than they are marked for. Example? A regular can of tuna is good around 5 years (with no damage and no extreme hot or cold temps) after it's canned.

I am in West Texas, without AC a building can get somewhere above 120 degrees without a problem.

Two years is plenty for me since I try to rotate my stock (didn't do so well on the rotation bit at the beginning but now I make sure to only buy what I would actually eat, which means no SPAM for me haha). Though, as mentioned above, the dates on the cans are more sell-by guidelines for the stores than expiration dates.

Wooden boards attached to the front of the shelves would work better than bungee cords, but you'll still have the glass jars clanking together. I put glass jars in boxes, with newspaper or cardboard wedged between them to keep them from clanking. I read somewhere that people also use new socks to store their jars and keep them from clanking together and breaking.

I saw someone placing two rubber bands around each jar, one on the lower part one on the higher part so that they would be the shock absorber between the jars. Easy to use and no noise when they touch each other, still try the wooden board in front and screw everything to the wall.
