Office of Homeland Security

Post by ais4122 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 1:19 pm

I hope this worked. There should be a picture displayed. This is my personal Office of Homeland Security. In my previous smaller house, I called it my Ready Room, which was merely a utility closet under a flight of stairs, with a gun cabinet, an ammo box, and a protective mask. I have since improved my plans and with a larger house, enlarged my ready room. I now call it my Office of Homeland Security. It is outfitted with additional survival/preparedness gear. Just wanted to share and see if anyone has pics of their ready rooms. Im always looking for good ideas. I placed this under planning, if its in the wrong place feel free to move it. If my pic did not come out, forgive me, this is my first attempt at uploading a pic to any forum, and I'm not certain if I did it correctly. :)

I see I am experiencing technical difficulties. I will try again.

Okay, not really what I wanted to do. I wanted the pic displayed in the forum without having to go to a link to see it.
But if you bother to hit the link, you will notice a few ideas I got from visiting the ZS forums on an almost daily basis.
The green 5 gal buckets contain canned goods, the tan 5 gal.water containers are filled. On top of the workbench is a red cross emergency radio with crank. On the shelving to the right, not easy to see are stocks of MRE's, ER bars, and additional survival gear in Go Kits. All great ideas I got from this forum. :)

Nice room... most folks would call that a man cave, but Office of Homeland Security works too.

Photobucket is the way to go for that.

Nice looking man cave! Much cleaner than mine.

I think it's cool. I like seeing what people have done.

Question: are those jerry cans with the water plastic or metal? Do you have to take any precautions with the stored water to keep it clean?

I also have a "batcave" under a flight of stairs, but your staircase must be much larger than mine. Mine's also a closet that I mostly just use to keep all my firearm stuff out of the way, and it sort of developed into a bunker.

After (old pic)

I've since added some more weapons, ammo and mags, as well as three month's food and water, a radio some lanterns and a few other supplies and given it a lick of paint. It's still small, but looks much more organized and spruced up. It's real virtue is that it's practically invisible from the outside.

+1 on how amazingly organized and clean it is.
Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

Those are the same USGI water container used by the military. They are plastic and brand new. Only $15 per container. I put labels on all my periishable stuff with expiration dates. I will change out the water after approx. 1 year.
I also have some metal jerry cans I use to store gasoline. I mix some stabil with the gas and have it stored in a plastic deck box from home depot out in my yard away from the house.

Man cave is a bit discriminatory.

Case in point, ultimate man cave: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wY7_8Q15ChQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is it just me, or does "mancave" sound dirty? Like one of the parts featured on Monty Python's "How to Identify Parts of the HUman Body" sketch?

"Number 67: the man-cave."
It can always get worse.

Yow. Damn fine. Much better looking than my little hole in the wall of a mancave.

I especially like the ammo cans lining the shelves. I really need more than the two I have. I hate not being able to find them cheap. :-/

How much are you paying for them? I get 30cal cans for about $4 and 50cal cans for about $6.

50cal cans are $12 and 30cal cans are non-existent.

Where are you getting yours?

GI Depot in Lancaster... or General Merchandise in Pataskala. GM's cans are a little more expensive but probably more convenient to you.

Argh. I've been shopping at Surplus World over on Morse road (closest to me) ... but the one in Pataskala is NOT that far. I'll have to shoot over there and see what they have on hand.

Surplus World is way over priced... and they don't have much in the way of "surplus". They mostly cater to Airsofters, whereas GM is a surplus store that happens to sell Airsoft, and Paintball supplies.

To the OP... sorry for getting off topic.
