Smart and Final

Postby *Mike* » Sat May 08, 2004 7:43 pm

I went to Smart and Final the other day, and realized it is a cash cow for food. If you go to a normal supermarket, a lot of things would be spoiled after a few months. But Smart and Final has a lot of canned foods, which don't spoil or have a really long shelf life. So I think if in an Infected area, hit the Smart and Final if there is one.

That's actually a great idea!
Shop a few different markets in your area to see who has a larger canned food supply, and possibly dried fruits etc.
Sam's Club has quite a bit of the dried stuff recently. Even dried cantalope! Must try some of that stuff.

Canned food has a shelf life of maybe three years > ?

In reality - and provided it is stored well it would likely last about five years . . . six at a push > ?

MRE [ MEALS READY TO EAT ] can last up to sixteen years when stored properly > ?

PLUS - they are guaranteed to provide a * working infantryman * exactly the exact calorie content and blah blah blah what he needs for each day .

MRE's will work out a bit more expensive - so why not use both canned goods AND the MRE's . Providing you have enough storage space as the MRE's are pretty bulky .

I can't quote it exactly cuz I don't have my catolog in front of me but if I remember right they have a sliding scale of expiraton depending on the tempature. The highest listing was 10 years if you keep it under 60 degrees.

I think 16 years would be fine as long at you keep it in a nice cool area.

Those are great for food while on the run but you can purchase dried food in #10 cans that will last about the same amount of time. These would be better for storage at your compound. I'd go for both.

The link on my post in this forum: http://zombiesquad.theedge.net/phpbb2/v ... .php?t=122
is where I got the catolog. They sell all kinds of great survival crap.

Yeah MREs are good. Anyone of you ever see Tremors, the survivalist(Burt), had 5 years worth of MREs.
