I decided I should finally use my Mora Robust, so I took it to the kitchen and cut up a London broil into fajita strips. I think the rest of the family wants Mora knives for the kitchen now.

I also plan on repacking my BOB/hiking gear later on... About time to rotate/replace/clean the gear inside.

I got a killer deal on a pistol box.

My family and I moved about two years ago. Fortunately our new house is much bigger than our old house. Unfortunately, my safe was much further from me at night.
This bothered me to no end. I worried about getting to it in time, getting it open fast enough and then finding a loaded weapon. It was crazy stupidity to go this long...

Why did I wait so long?
A. I needed to find a good solution.
B. I needed to be able to afford said good solution.

Repeated searches and inquiries led me to believe that the Ft Knox brand pistol box was the best out there. It was made of heavy steel and made well, with an easily opened but tough lock that did not require batteries. It was also big enough to hold at least four full-size pistols.

The second problem is that these have recently jumped up in cost. I believe they used to be around $160 but the best I could find was $259 + shipping. My family may get over-run by zombies but my wife won't let me spend a nickle that I can't justify. So I was left to wait. And watch. And wallow in despair. Until. Until. Until! I saw this:

http://www.dcgstores.com/pb1-pistol-box ... QgodqlAA3w" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The price seemed too good. The terms too reasonable. However Google indicated they weren't crooks. Tuesday I ordered it. I immediately got an e-mail saying it was back-ordered. Nooooooo!!!! Ack! They got me!!!!

Then. Somehow. Insanely. I got an e-mail the next day saying it shipped and would arrive Friday. No way! Back up Jack! It was too much!!

Friday afternoon, Fedex left it on our front porch. It was packed beautifully. The default combination worked (I'd read a review where it didn't).

Then I locked myself out of it. It was a scary fifteen minutes, eventually resolved by carefully reading the instructions and in my exhausted and feverish state, realizing the important, almost fundamental, differences between left and right.

Anyhoo... Changing the conbination was easy. Bolting it to a hidden but easily accessed place was super-duper easy. Parking my home defense pistol in a good spot was priceless. I have been giddy with the peace of mind this brings me.

TL;DR: These things are awesome, especially at a good price.

We finally got enough fishing poles for the whole family. We bought 2 last night and two licenses and took three of the four out this morning with our two girls, 3 and 11. Didn't get so much as a nibble but we got out and did it! It was a nice start to our 15th wedding anniversary!

Continued experimenting with bamboo and cane as building materials in case the zombies eat all the world's lumberjacks first. I'm starting to feel a little better about the work.

Upgraded my emergency lighting for the house with an oil lamp. Up to this point, I had collected several flashlights/headlamps and lots of candles (about 40 lbs worth).

Now I've added my first oil lamp, oil, and a spare wick. All for less than $15 at Wallie-world. I'll make it a priority to pick up a couple of more over the next few weeks.

Gave new life to some cheapo LED lights and lanterns accumulating in the junk drawer.
I hate how some LED lanterns don't have frosted lenses as looking or even glancing at a bare LED is annoying and having a clear lens and smooth reflector causes the light/beam to have artifacts and gives out harsh lighting.

I turned my old cheap ok lanterns into pretty decent ones by spraying the globes with a dull lacquer or frosting spray. Gives it a more even light output and not too harsh on the eyes. Better ambience.
Also, my daughter can play with some lights without having to worry about looking directly at the LED diode.

I now have "new" LED lanterns and lights without having to spend except for the can of lacquer and a few minutes.

Just finished casting several hundred projectiles for 308, 32-20, 303 and 7.62x39, and coated then in Hitek lube. A new process to me. Good learning experience.

Finally got the wife motivated into prepping her BOB, under the guise of several trips away.

Inventoried the stores, and realized we are doing alright. Rotated the stock, and made sure all requirements were present.

Got my BOV tool kit assembled:

-Fuse puller/tester + assortment of fuses
-Electrical Tape
-Misc Electrical connectors
-Tire Pressure Gauge
-Mini wire cutters/needle nose pliers
-Micro Screw Drivers
-4pc stubby screw-driver set
-Electrical Wire
-Roofing wire (for securing stuff)
-Hose Clamp set
-20pc 1/4" SAE/Metric socket/ratchet set
-Plastic clamp
-Mechanics Gloves
-Adjustable Wrench
-Combo Wrench Set (SAE)
-Mechanics Goves

My car survival kit contains the tow rope, jumper cables, axe, shovel, and fix a flat. Only thing I really need to add is a tire plug kit and some spare bulbs. Oh, and small bottles of oil/anti-freeze/tranny fluid.

I went rucking 6 miles with a couple of buddies, both were ex-Army. They only went four but they hadn't rucked in awhile. It was a little over 6 since I would walk back to them every now and then which really wasn't necessary since all three of us had two way radios. Bought a couple of new SAM splints and 10 triangular bandages, over half I'm giving away to my group and a new blood pressure cuff since my cat effed up my last one. My fault. Got some extra PT in and about to learn some new knots and continue studying up on some old Corpsman books I have.

Installed a newer, better, faster router. How does this relate to prepping you ask? Well aside from being able to surf these boards faster, most of the time I spent installing it was getting my security camera system set up so I can view them from work on both my laptop and phone.

Now for the wall of shame. Most of the time I spent trying to get my cameras working was because I forgot changes don't take effect on my DVR until you restart it. The bad part is I just went through this a few months ago and did the exact same thing.

Just yesterday I took the biometric safe which was just sitting on the floor underneath a nightstand and finally shoved it into a heavy oak dresser (had to cut part of the opening to get it to fit (3/4" solid oak) and bolted it down. Much more safe and secure, hidden from sight, and less accessible to the little one.

Have been thinking about wildfire prep all day today and the wife and I will discuss our 5 min, 15 min, and 30 min evac plan.

Reminds me to read up on the Barska biometric I bought two months ago, bolt it down and actually use it!

I installed a trailer hitch on my wife's car to tow our little utility trailer.

I'm going for a bike ride when we get home.

Had dinner. Garden veggies mostly with a nice rib eye. Blackberry muffins for desert (yum-yum, love it when the blackberries come in). Threw some veggies in the dehydrator. Went to Sam's restocked on the stuff we don't make ourselves (peanut butter, toilet paper, flour etc, etc).

Went around the LGSs looking for a CC/HD handgun.
Checked schedule for handgun classes as well.
