Caught my eye because this company is in my AO. Brings to mind what I consider to be hands down the best cinematic treatment yet of hardcore prepping in the face of popular opinion.

I don't know about shelters but having my own park like land to walk around on when all the parks, restaurants and entertainment venues were closed has been priceless. There is no replacement for breathing room. If I had to sit in my storm shelter all day I would be depressed.

Can't argue with you there. Hell, I was work at (rural, adjacent to vast municipal hiking trails) home for almost three months and I jumped at the opportunity to be part of the pilot group returning to the office. Hardly anyone I knew is back at work but I wave like an idiot at every member of the cleaning staff I meet and treat them like long lost friends.Stercutus wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 6:50 pmI don't know about shelters but having my own park like land to walk around on when all the parks, restaurants and entertainment venues were closed has been priceless. Note to self: life in the post-apocalyptic age would fucking SUCK. There's nothing remotely fun or romantic about it and if this pandemic has taught me anything, it's that I hope to God I never have to really need my preps. I can only imagine the depths of despair I'd be experiencing if I was stuck in an underground shelter.
It's the prevailing sentiment behind the burgeoning market for underground shelters that I find striking.

I wouldn't want to take up residence in a bunker. I'm in my apt most every day. It's not the best of lifestyles. It's not good, or even OK, to be alone all the time.
I saw that movie. It rocked hard. I recommend it.

No thanks, to the sheltering thing; I don't even like working in a building where you can't see the weather outside.
Now, a proper storm shelter is a valid consideration, depending on the area - but you probably won't stay in it longer than a 24 hour period.

Shelters have a place, just not as a primary residence. Not for me, anyways.tony d tiger wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:35 pmNo thanks, to the sheltering thing; I don't even like working in a building where you can't see the weather outside. I can see the merit of a reinforced shelter in my AO (tropical cyclones are a thing) but even then I would want windows, albeit heavily reinforced laminated windows.tony d tiger wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:35 pmI don't even like working in a building where you can't see the weather outside.

The longest we ever did was six hours for multiple storm bands. In that instance we had a touchdown less than a mile North of us.Now, a proper storm shelter is a valid consideration, depending on the area - but you probably won't stay in it longer than a 24 hour period.

Once upon a time, a "Bunker" looked like this

then, later, like this:

Today, in N/A many look like this: mostly because things are still (mostly) civilized

won't be too much longer, things will look like this, because they will have to....

with gardens

where every home is the Alamo....

Here's a real Doomsday bunker (for social troubles)

the best defense is not being anywhere near the trouble....

Yeah, in the 1990's we started a new round. Didn't you get your new card?
