Youtube Prepper Vlogs: Good vs. Bad

Post by M813 » Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:52 am

I couldn't seem to find an appropriate sub-forum for this. Mods- please move as you see fit.

Question: What prepping Youtube channels do you feel are the most factual and the most realistic, avoiding hype, hysterics and chest-thumping?

So far, Penny University is the only one I've found where the author actively attempts to bust rumors and set a realistic tone with realistic expectations. The problem is, I *know* I'm ignorant and new to organized prepping...so is Penny University actually a good example? Anyone have any other preferences?

Speaking only for myself, I sub to FerFAL, Survival Lily, MWW, & a number of others who's names escape me as I am on my fone.

ETA: Liberty Doll does actual old-school reporting: WWWWH&W - names, times, dates, places. Showing copies of reports, documents, audio, video. When she opines, she makes that clear.

Anyone else notice lately that a lot of these YT prepping channels have become mouthpieces to promote Olight products?

I'd never even heard of Olight. It doesn't seem to get any play on Penny U.

You do find a lot of channels that are just there to shill products. Wranglerstar comes to mind as a very popular channel that seems to get a lot of prodcuts. Last Line of Defense gets tons of free stuff as well, but I appreciate his take on prepping.

Other channels that are prepper related that I really appreciate include:
FarmCraft 101 - Interesting diy building projects
Gold Shaw Farm - Lessons learned about taking up farming
Johnnies Reloading Bench My favorite reloading channel
Last Line of Defense - Mostly vehicle prepping, EDC and gear reviews
Lucky Gunner - Practical firearm, ammo and CCW information
Primitive Technology - A dude that builds homes with no tools
Real Vision Finance - Financial prepping
Self Sufficient Me - Sustainable container farming
Survival Dispath - Potpouri prepping. Some yawners, some decent videos
Emporium Outdoors - Cold weather camping and gear reviews
The Social Regressive - Gun stuff including a great budget 1,000 yard rifle build series
The Anarchast - The only moral form of government
Steemit, where I write stuff now

Youtube has become my go to channel for any unfamiliar task that I may wish to complete.

However, the problem I have found with many of the videos is that the presenters generally take 5 minutes for every minute the task requires.

This also depends on how you define "prepping."

Natural disaster?

Man made disaster?

War?

Long slow financial collapse?

Long slow environmental collapse?

Fast environmental collapse?

Fast financial collapse?

Job loss?

Aliens from space?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the sewers?

Car accident?

Hunting accident?

Bugging in?

Bugging out?

Vehicle mobile bug out?

Bicycle mobile bug out?

Foot mobile bug out?

Bug out to a refugee center?

But out to family?

Bug out to a hotel?

Bug out to a random campsite in a national park?

But out to a cabin in the woods?

But out to the sea?

Bug out to another country?

Weapons?

Wilderness living?

Gardening?

Animal husbandry? (Nothing to do with kinky stuff... usually)

Medical issues?

NBC issues?

The best started point was a video by MainPrepper. He ran into legal trouble as I understand and his videos were taken down. I believe his intro to prepping video was captured by others before it was taken down and has been posted. I would look for that, but if I find it I'll post it.

Otherwise, please take the above list as a starting point for how you define "prepping" and what subjects you are interested in. This is too big a topic for everyone to be an expert at everything. That is why this forum exists. I have a limited subset of the above list which I focus on.
*Remember: I'm just a guy on the internet :)
*Don't go to stupid places with stupid people & do stupid things.
*Be courteous. Look normal. Be in bed by 10'clock.

@Pistol Pete

Thanks for the list. I definitely want to check out the farming channels.
