Host an asteroid viewing party:
  1. Gather on a nice hilltop (or a nice yacht if at sea) overlooking estimated impact area and procure best drinks and food money can buy
  2. Enjoy the countdown and the ~1-2 seconds you can see the incandescent death sphere entering the atmosphere at 25 km/s
  3. Bask in the warm glow of the next great global extinction event
EDIT: OK, so the above is for a much larger asteroid than the NASA exercise is using, but really it would be pretty awesome to witness the event without point #3 above. :)

Perhaps not DICE but more like CP&P?

Using the Impact Earth calculator: https://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/ImpactEarth, here's my plan for the medium-sized asteroid NASA is war gaming...taking the top-end of their size estimate (~300 m = ~1000 ft.) and assuming a dense, rocky asteroid, entering at 25 km/s at an angle of 45 degrees over land or deep ocean:

Land: https://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/ImpactEarth ... tdens=2500
Ocean: https://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/ImpactEarth ... pthUnits=1

A distance of 100 km from the exact impact site is probably survivable with some moderate precautions taken, but even with pretty good trajectory tracking from the 8 years of study you might not get a very small CEP on the day of. Much closer than 100 km, and you need to start building a bunker for your party, particularly with high reflectivity reinforced windows to avoid spontaneous viewer combustion and popcorning. :P

The USG has stated definitively that the asteroid will not hit the Earth and is conducting a simulation of what would happen if it did. I am going to say it is going to hit the Earth and just hope they don't say that it won't hit near me as well.

Oh dear... I just realized this might be all my fault.

Let me explain... No male in the paternal line of my family (and damn few of the others) has ever lived beyond the age of 72 years. EVER.
I'm currently 62, and will turn 63 in August. In 2029 I'll be 72, going on 73. :ohdear:

It gets worse. The wife and I are planning to move to Northern Idaho. This asteroid is obviously out to ensure that I don't break the family curse, so it will likely hit near me. (They've already determined its trajectory as going over the USA) When it hits it will likely be close enough to the Yellowstone Caldera to trigger a massive eruption and unprecedented earthquakes all along the Pacific coast. The eruption will be enough to plunge the Earth into another global ice age, wiping out most of the life on Earth. Meanwhile, in the Pacific, the tsunami generated by the impact and earthquakes will scour clean most every Pacific island between here and the Japanese and Indonesian coasts.

This will leave the Nordic countries in a rather good position for taking over the world, something my Danish ancestors would likely approve of, and which probably fulfills some sort of familial prophecy if you go far enough back in my family tree.

My bad.

Therefore; we must start building an underground shelter in high mountainous country like Switzerland or if we want to stay with Nordic countries, Norway. Rumor has it that there are already underground shelters open to the citizens of Switzerland. However, I will need $1M USD in assets to emigrate.

NT2C, since you will have go on to your great reward regardless of whether or not you relocate you really should "donate" whatever assets you have towards the cause.

Is it not enough that I'm already "taking one for the team" and drawing it away from those areas? :?

NT, you agree you are gonna die anyway so just cough up the goods.
Ster, I will need to charge you 10 % of all the "assets for sorting that out for you. Thanks kindly.

Back on topic, my Google push gives me daily updates on all things asteroid, it amazing the frequency of flybys that actually occur.

You're probably far enough away to keep your apocalypse to yourself.

But not so far away to bolster the 'ol Zombie Squad population.

Meh... Maybe something by my old late, great friend David Peel? (how the military ever gave me a security clearance with a friend like him I'll never know) Maybe a little Van Halen Judgement Day?
