15 gallon blue drums question

Post by SkullGirl » Fri Dec 21, 2012 4:02 pm

I have access to some blue drums that were used for pharmaceutical grade amino acids. They were lined. Would these be okay to store water in?

Thanks.

As a general statement: Containers used to store pharmaceutical-grade anything are food safe. Minimal residues of proteogenic amino acid shouldn't hurt you either.
Are the drums durable, especially when filled with a few hundred kg of water? I have no fucking clue.

EDIT: I'm not sure if I understood you: are you going to use a liner?
Off the internet until further notice.

Are these the blue UN-marked HDPE drums, or some other sort of blue drum? What is the UN marking? Does the drum have a FDA-style "food quality" marking?

Something like this?

Several different styles of drums out there, if you can take pictures of the drum as a whole and zoomed in on any markings?

Also, it's the holiday season, lots of our members are busy spending time with friends and family or getting ready for such time, I never expect the boards to be busy this time of year.

The 15 gal drums will weight about 100 lbs when filled and can be rolled, kicked, bounced, fall off a truck, etc. They are pretty tough compared to the unmovable 55 gal drums.
When I was born, they told me the chance of getting out of this life alive was slim.
