Anyone interested in a mock bug out?

Post by PistolPete » Mon Oct 04, 2010 12:28 pm

It looks like there may be a opening in the schedule on the next two Fridays. Anyone interested in a mock bug out / urban night hike? This weather is absolutely perfect for it.

[edit]We've got a date set, see here:

I can't this friday, but I may be able to make next if the decision is made soon enough (i.e. before saturday)

will this be urban, suburban or other?

LOL I just hopped on the forum to check if a mock bug out was being planned. The next couple of Fridays are good for me Pete.

This might be something that I would be interested in doing. Can someone please explain what a mock bug out consist of.

I think that I have a good grasp of what it entails but I want to make sure I know what I am getting myself into.

Actually I think under some circumstances people sometimes don't even know themselves, but that's a bit existential for this thread.

Copied from http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopi ... 56&t=65261" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What is a mock bug out? Well, it's a chance to meet some people, evaluate your Bug Out Bag, and enjoy some light exercise. We pretend there is a disaster and evacuate the city with our BOBs. There will be a contest and a (crappy) prize awarded to the winner. We usually do a short loop of 5 miles or so. The goal here isn't a long hike, but we want to walk far enough with our BOBs to make sure they are comfy enough for serious use.

Wow, I really need to hop on the forum more. I totally didn't see this and sent PP a message about setting one up. My bad.

I was on the forum for the first time in a month. I just happened to check the ZSC-001 before I did the same thing. I was thinking it was about time for one. I managed to not make myself look like an idiot for once.

Oh, and if you all take pictures this time please Photoshop my fat ass out before you post them to the forum. K? Thanks!

Yep, this Friday is 'cause there didn't seem to be a lot of interest. Are folks free next Friday? Maybe plan on 5 miles with BOBs starting in mid-town STL? Start at 8p?

That should work for me. Just need to know where. I know I can find the Tap Room fairly well; we just have to remember to check the other door this time. The spawn expressed an interest on going on one of these but I’m not sure if she will this time or not.

I would be interested in at least going on the walk part with everyone. I'm really new to all of this so I haven't exactly gotten a BOB started yet.

Well, you are in luck! I have an extra BOB I can bring for somebody who wants to participate but doesn't have one built. Or you can just throw some canned goods in a backpack and run that way.

I'll know by tomorrow probably whether I'm free to do this on Friday. A friend is getting married and we're trying to figure out the best day to do the bachelor party which may be on Friday. If so I'll bump this to the first weekend in Nov most likely. October is a busy month!

Or maybe we can do one during the day for once. It's hard to wrangle up people for 3 hours on a Saturday though.

I think my schedule is cool for this as well either this Friday, next, or even the first one of November. How many total are in need of basic BOB stuff? If you have not put together one yet, make sure and download the PDF brochure about B.O.B. s on the website.

That would actually be very cool of you and greatly appreciated!

I know I can't make it this week since I'll be out of town. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you postpone. :D

And a postpone it is. I will instead be celebrating a friend entering into a lifelong relationship with a hot and interesting girl. :-)

So perhaps the first or second Friday in Nov for the next one. I'll get a couple weeks notice on it.

It'll be cool to do the bugout with a nice chill in the air as it is. But, hey what am I saying? This is St. Louis and could very well be in the 80s during November.

Hey, what week in November did we discuss shifting this to? We know that October was/is crazy but November will fill up quick as well between holidays and other events. The sooner we decide on a day, the more people we can get in on it.

I think Pete was talking about doing it the second week of November.
