Hey Vegas, I'm comin' for ya ... What to do?
Alright, so my fiance's best friend is celebrating her 30th birthday this year, and we're thinking about doing the weekend in Vegas, Friday (night), Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (morning). So for those who have done Vegas, or live there, what is worth doing, and what's worth skipping? The goal is to keep the trip on the cheap side (>$1000), so keep that in mind, but I think at least I, maybe my fiance and the others, would like to try shooting FA, and see the Grand Canyon. Anything else I should put on my radar?

Oh man.... You're going to hate it if you aren't a big gambler. I used to do day trips. Fly down mid day, party all night fly home in the morning. That was almost to much for me.
Freemont street is nice. They have the zipline that goes down the main road.
Caesar's Palace is pretty cool to walk though. I always imagine that it looks close to what would have been at the height of the Roman empire.
Food, honestly almost every place has some amazing food to eat. Skip the stupid Buffets, even if it comes with your room. They are crowded and recently they have been running out of food because Americans are packing it away more.
Grand Canyon is close and easy to get to. If you've never been it's worth the trip even with the other tourists.
There's a lot more but I cant think of it for some reason. Of course gambling, clubs, and lots of drinking. Oh and a tip if you're going to be staying places if you find a room card on the ground keep it. You can sneak into their pools if yours is garbage or want different "scenery"

I don't think I am the best advisor on this but let me thank you for the query. Stories, books, movies could result...and you frame it so well.BullOnParade wrote:Alright, so my fiance's best friend is celebrating her 30th birthday this year, and we're thinking about doing the weekend in Vegas, Friday (night), Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (morning). The casino idea is to comfort you within its confines.
Like a cruise ship.
Relax and enjoy.
Or escape.
If you can.
Rent a car: $29 go see the Dam
Have time? 4.5 hours to the Canyon depending on your rental.
Look at Vegas from high ground away when the sun goes down.
Priceless
All the ground light in that area is best viewed from a distance.
Funny thing though, at a distance from that light you can see galaxies light years away.
It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.

I'll be in Vegas in a couple months and was looking at things to do also. As was mentioned, there are several zip lines that were new since I was there last. I saw a bar tour if you are into that. Supposed to be able to skip lines getting in. There is a big Ferris wheel thing, like the eye in London, 550 feet tall that is new since my last visit. My favorite is to go to the MGM and watch the lions sleep.

for shooting FA I recommend Battle Field ( https://www.battlefieldvegas.com/ ) we were out in Vegas last summer and my wife surprised me with a trip there for my birthday. the HMMWV picked us up at our hotel, the staff was friendly, and the range staff was helpful, and vigilant. after they dropped us off on the strip. great experience overall.
they also have a discount for veterans if that applies to anyone in your group.

I'll post an update on this thread in the near future. We ended up shooting at "Shoot Las Vegas", which was fun, but had some negative aspects I'll comment on later. We did the big Ferris wheel ("the link") and the roller coaster in New York, New York (possibly my favourite roller coaster ever; it wasn't crazy fast, tall, or long, but it had every feature you could think of). Drove out to the west rim of the grand Canyon and the mob museum is highly recommended if you want to know some of the history of the city and why things are the way they are.
Overall, it was a great trip and I can't wait to go back.
