Donated tonight at a blood drive on campus. Unfortunately, the free ice cream coupons are seasonal. Got a t-shirt.

I walked away with zero swag last time. I almost complained, but then I just filled my purse with free cookies.

Going in tomorrow for blood donation, hopefully. It depends on if I can get someone to watch the DrthTaterTot.

Anyone ever thought about Bone marrow donation?

Just something I'm looking into.

Signed up as a marrow donor a while back, but haven't heard from them since. I need to get over to my employer's main campus to do a double red donation again. They love to see me there on account of my blood type being a perfect match for my personality... B-.

Melanie, I get the third degree each time because of an ex-girlfriend who was born in South Africa, nevermind that her folks pulled up stakes from there in 1976, when she was four. Thankfully, the RSA isn't on the "lifetime banination" list the way the Congo is. Given the Congo's history of new & fun (AIDS & Ebola, for example) diseases turning up there, I can understand the donation ban. They got burned by AIDS' long incubation period and would want to avoid a repeat. Note: I don't nessisarily agree with that policy, but I can understand it.

Gave 450ml of the red stuff at the local Red Cross yesterday. My 16th time, that makes a total of 7,2 liters. Feels good.

I've been meaning to sign up for the bone marrow donor registry, but I keep forgetting it when I give blood. I feel that if I can save someone's life with a few days of discomfort for myself, it's absolutely worth it.

Just visited the vampires today and gave a pint. They had a blood drive at work this morning.

It's been probably 5 or more years since I last donated. ZS is mostly responsible for my getting out and starting to give again. It got me feeling all socially responsible and crap.... :D

Donated two days ago to the Red Cross. And now, my arm is limp. I hope whoever gets it likes it.

My latest.

It was done in the office I work at. Got a neat generic nalgene bottle signed by Rob Hill, who is climbing Mt. Everest soon, if he hasn't already.

That is a feat in itself, but get this.... He has an ostomy!

I just came out of giving a pint here at the office. A high school blood drive was cancelled due to flu and my company volunteered to pick up the slack.

I was doing great until they pulled the last vial of blood, then the fact that I only had cereal for breakfast caught up with me and I got pretty loop-de-loo. I got hit with a wave of nausea and was very lightheaded. Supposedly my lips went white. I have big veins and the blood flows fast, so I guess I was drained too quickly. They put my feet up and told me to cough, and brought me a Shasta Cola (ugh). They gave me two cookies and a bag of cheetos and pampered me a little.

Giving blood used to be no problem at all. I guess I should have eaten better beforehand.

I didn't get any dinosaur stickers, but I got a t-shirt, a picture of which I will post when I get a new battery for my digi.

Good for you, LanPirate. How about you stop by the introductions forum and tell us a bit about yourself so we can give you a proper welcome?

I gave platelets for the first time today and it was pretty cool. Aphoresis is a bit harsher than giving whole blood, but depending on your blood type you could do a whole lot more good. Now I get to see my red cross friends every 2 weeks instead of every 2 months!

I need to look it up again and find a place to donate. Every time I come across one it's more spur of the moment and my iron turns out to be just low enough to disqualify me. If I can remember to take an iron tablet before I'm cool.

Man, the last one they were giving out free comedy show tickets, food, and t-shirts. It was totally kickass, and I couldn't give :( I felt doubly sucky, one for not being able to donate since i"m a Universal donor, and for missing out on cool free stuff.

LilDaemon, there are ways to keep your iron up. PM me and I can send you some tips. I'm on a very strict diet and still manage to keep my hematocrit up around 47%.
