Our ZS chapter is giving away dog tags for donors that bring in another Non-ZS donor at our next blood drive, and encouraging non-eligible members to help anyway by giving the dog tag to them if they can bring in 2 non-ZS donors.

Feh. I always hate Blood Drives. Since my dad was stationed in Great Britain during the early 90's, I'm considered a potential dormant Mad Cow carrier, and there's still no known way to test blood for Mad Cow (the last I heard, anyways. If anyone has Red Cross-sanctioned proof to the contrary, I would greatly appreciate it), I get to feel like an ass for not being able to help my fellow servicemembers... but I am sincerely thankful that you all are getting out there and helping out.

Doing double red cell donations now so can only donate every 4 months. Next is June 5.

Reguardless of how you may feel about the collections agencies, if it aint in the bag, it isn't possible to put it in a needy vein.

If you cannot donate blood you can donate money, and still help in other ways. You can also tell others to donate blood if they can.

I encourage people to donate as often as they can. After all, it's people that do donate that I have to thank for still being alive.

Ended up having to go to school for a week just to keep the job, so the donation was today. Don't quite understand what the importance of the double red cell donation is but they like it enough to pass out Wal Mart gift cards for doing so and summertime slows they were giving another Wally World Gift card just for donating. Also got registered for an automobile give-away. Have a friend that runs the food bank locally, I'm sure she can use the two wally world gift cards. I will make a point of letting her know it is a Zombie Squad donation.

I'm in the same boat, for having been in Germany at the wrong time, and trust me, you have my sympathy. It sucks not being able to help out when it's so obvious and so easy.

I apparently have bad veins! They had a terrible time hitting the vein in the first place. Then, they "blew" the vein and it apparently leaked inside my arm while they were drawing the blood. It left me with a huge bruise and a terrible sore arm for a long while after (like over a week sore and a long time looking like I lost a fight)! I guess I am a terrible wimp, but I am afraid to go back to try again. Any thoughts about whether it's something wrong with me and thus more likely to reoccur, or whether it was a fluke? I feel bad about not returning, but I am just a tad fearful of a repeat.

After the Boston and West, Texas tragedies, I'd think many people have donated; IIRC blood has a 42 day expiration, so anyone who hasn't donated lately might want to think of offering to donate in about 3-4 weeks, as there could be a relative low in supply, and you never know when someone might need blood. And those who just donated, cannot donate for a while. Just a random thought - Hope it helps!
