I've used a spare 12v facet 'cube' pump and spare 1/4" hose to empty the tanks on my dad's F-350 before we scrapped it. Self-priming & easy to install a $3 filter before the pump. Takes a while, but it's about foolproof. Pump doesn't mind running dry for a bit & the sound changes noticeably when the tank's empty.

The pump was mis-labeled on ebay- 12+psi when I only needed 3-4psi for my carburated generator.
