Looking for a new motorcycle UPDATE BIKE PURCHASED!!!!

Post by Space Jockey » Sun Apr 24, 2011 3:30 pm

I have my eye on a few bikes, but quite frankly I don't have the money to cover something like these beauties. I'm using it for mainly city driving with occasional longer cruises (i.e. 100 miles max) so I don't need anything overly powerful. I've had my eye on two that really jump out at me so far, unfortunately they are out of my price range. I'm looking for something similar to these models in design. Open to suggestions or model names so I can do some more research and see what works for me. Price range of about $5000 at this time.

These are the ones I like:
Suzuki M109R Boulevard: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2 ... M109R4.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ducati Sport Classic 1000: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2 ... postoa.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any ideas that have similar styles would be appreciated. There's just something about the half crotch-half cruiser mix on the M109 I like. And the naked look of the Ducati Sport Classic is just wonderful. Either would fulfill the role I want it for well.

Yamaha FZ1.

It is the one size fits all naked sport bike. Plus the insurance companys treat it as a standard bike.

Suzuki SV1000

Naked 1000cc V twin. All around good bike, Japanese version of your Ducati.

Yamaha VMAX.. What I ride.

Your balls must be huge to ride this. You will die. More power that you will ever need. Handles like a pig. Makes a sound that will kill most people. Mine puts 218 horse through the rear wheel.

You can find any of these bikes used for less than 5k.

Any questions you have please let me know.

Got me, I haven't thought about availability in the states and I am flattened to see it is not available in the US.

So ... count this as yet another useless post. :oops:

Sharp looking bikes. I've always liked the muscle bike look. I've been considering another scoot. I sold my harley five years ago. I'm thinking enduro style.

Sweet! another Vmaxer. We're pretty rare and It's good to find another.
I'm pretty fond of the ZRex. The Z1000, a SV or if looking for a gas saver, a gutless Vstar would work around town pretty well while getting great mileage.

+1 on the FZ1

Pre-2006 models were more comfortable, but 2006 and up are fuel injected. I sold my 2005 FZ1 in January for $3800 with 9k miles on it. Look for a used one and you can stay under 5k.

Were it me, I would downsize and get a 250 ninja or Yamaha XT225 as both can be had out the door for sub 5k with some haggling and get 70mpg as opposed to the 42 mpg I got on my FZ. "175 pound rider, solo tripping, realistic driving conditions" I'm figuring on premium gasoline running over $5 a gallon this summer and lots of newbie bikers will be on the road. Everyone look 2 times before you pull out o.k.
If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

I have looked into replacing my 1999 Vmax.

No bike will ever match the thrust that mine has, except for the Gen2 bikes. And I dont want to drop 20K.

I am waiting for the price to drop on a 2009 or 2010. So far. No luck. :(

Go ahead and drop the cash for the new max. Hell, if I quit buying back tires for my 86, I could have the money saved in no time ;)

Honda Magna.

There are only a very few faster cruisers & none more agile.
I've had two of 'em & they've both been great, trouble free bikes.

"Let the butt hurt begin" :lol:

Years ago, we left Houston heading on a ride that would take us through Austin to Lukenbauch. My buddy's custom softail ate a cam. So, he doubled up on his girl's softail and left his bike at a wrecker shop to pick up later. 90 miles later his girl was threatening to rent a car and go home if she had to ride on the back of the sportster any longer. It wasn't all bad. I had a back rest with big ta-ta's for the rest of the trip.

Bike purchased today!!!

Went with a smaller version of one of the suggestions.

Suzuki SV650 for $3500, just under KBB value but worth every cent IMHO.

Looks great, I'd have no issues with that underneath me.

I would... it's red! :lol: Red sporty bikes tend to call a cops eye even if you're doing the speed limit from what I've seen. Also: no wheelies on main roads in town. Then you get a red license (commute to/from work only) to go with your red bike. Happened to a friend of mine. :roll:

Otherwise, looks nice. One of these days I need to get a modern bike again. This dual carb tuning with no parts availability thing on my KZ400 is keeping me in a cage. And it hurts. :gonk:

On a somewhat related note, went to go riding today and the zipper on my $280 AGVSport jacket busted. Took almost 5 minutes to get it off me. Tried every homegrown method I could think of to fix it with no avail. It zips up, but the teeth don't lock. Going to see if a seamstress can remove and sew on a new zipper. In the meantime I've spent most of the day looking at new jackets and other gear. The best thing I have for now is a thick windbreaker and that isn't enough for me.
