ZombieSoldier01 wrote:See that's the problem. In my old 300c at 300miles they replaced my PCV and it continued to emit a small haze of smoke which they said was normal. On a new moor it should never be acceptable for oil consumption and smoke especially with the ultra close tolerances with new motors. The problem is that the PCV allows oil mist to go up into the intake manifold and pool in it then at start up it dumps into the cylinders allowing it to burn. Also when under heavier throttle the extreme pressures that build in the crank case push oil mist up through the PCV and into the combustion chamber. That's why a catch can inline between the PCV and the intake plenum eliminates that. I used to check mine every few hundred miles and empty it back into the oil pan. And with mine I was running mobil1 and 7 quart oil pan it gets expensive when you burn a quart or 2 every oil change.

I burn use Mobil 1 myself and yeah, that gets expensive. No smoke, no smell, just missing oil.

Upgraded my tires today. Went from OEM 265-70-17 (31") Goodyear Wrangler SR-A D-rated highway tires on my Ram 1500 to Treadwright Warden 285-70-17 (33") E-rated tires. Should be MUCH more capable off-road with a load.

https://treadwright.com/p-97-285-70r17- ... a-t-e.aspx

The Treadwrights are retreads, but they are a clone of the BFG AT/KO at less than half the price per tire, and are made in America. $750 shipped for 5 tires? I'm in.

Repacked the bug out supplies in my Jeep. Rotated out water, topped-up the FAK and secured the family BOB with bungee cords in case of roll-over.

Actually it was wed, but I worked on cleaning and organizing my basement garage.I am not finished with it yet. I did put up some shelves, cleaned up the floor, and moved some stuff around. Still need to finish my welding table. But overall I am pleased with the progress.

Ordered lots of brake parts. They should get here on my birthday. Also emailed a guy on craigslist about some parts. Haven't heard back yet, but it was after midnight when I emailed him.

Got that gas tank. Fixed a pin hole leak in it. Added a new filter to carb braided line. Almost got the tank mounted, going to need longer J bolts. Lines are hooked up to the sending unit. Added some wire to the tank ground so it will be long enough. All the brake parts have arrived. May get on that this weekend.

Ordered new gas struts for the side windows of the cap on the wife's BOV. Two were dead and leaking oil, one was dead but not leaking and one still had some pressure. They just don't make things the way they used to. These were barely 15 years old. :(

My week for vehicle electrical problems...

The battery in the wife's Dakota gave out on Thursday, 5 years to the day from the last time I replaced it. Fortunately, the battery had a 100 month warranty, so the replacement only cost me about $35

The today I was using my truck as the "sweep" vehicle for the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon and my alternator fried itself just short of the 11 mile point. It was an upgraded 140 amp alternator that I put in last year and had a lifetime warranty, so the replacement was easy on the wallet. Cause of death? Eleven miles of moving at idle speed (following a runner who was just walking) with the truck lit like the proverbial Christmas tree. Not enough engine RPM's to handle the load and it cooked itself. Time to add the second alternator I've been planning on.

Today, I found out just how nice my modified brakes work.

I look over my shoulder to make sure I'm clear for my lane change, hear a crunch ahead of me, turn back, start pumping the brakes (no ABS) and turning right.

in the past week I've rebuilt the air conditioning compressor, replaced the belts and am getting ready to drain the transmission fluid in order to a) replace that fluid and b) replace the tranny pan gasket.

Fixed several brittle broken wires in the main engine harness, and removed & resealed the leaking transmission shift solenoids.

Got a progress report on my engine rebuild as well, the bore has been increased (making it a 1.7L instead of a 1.6L) and the new 12.5:1 compression pistons arrived. Hopefully will have this beast back and installed in a couple months, just waiting on headwork now.

Bah. Threshold Braking....Practice it! Much shorter stopping distance than manually pumping. Just a word of advice, not meaning to talk down. (I mean, I couldnt get the brakes on my truck to lock up on dry pavement if I tried...)

OT: I finally got around to reorganizing my truck's kit bag and FAK and adding some essentials, along with picking up my Amsoil stuff for my oil change I hope to accomplish this week if I can get off my ass after work haha.

The mothership now has a fire extinguisher. Only a 2kg one, as I don't have space for a bigger one, but that is still better than nothing.
