Moar updates.

Took the van for a mountain drive at the hottest possible time, with no overheat, and it ran better than ever!

Going on to interior and cosmetics :)

Today after jury duty I did this to the right front door, to slow the rust before rainy season. Grind out rust, wet-sand, sealing primer. Going to come back to it for final body work later, getting the metal sealed is the goal here.

Btw, the sand colored paint comes off very easy.

Lots of roof grinding yesterday and today. Got all the heavy rust ground out and treated with Ospho. There is no perforation anywhere, even the drip rails are clean of anything but surface rust. There is quite a bit of solid paint I left. I may grind it out later, but for the winter coming, red primer, and a white coat of Henry sealer.

Everything got wet sanded and hit with a scotch brite before the Ospho. I'll let it set until the weekend and then rinse and on with the rust inhibiting primer.

Finished completely stripping the roof today. This last pic is one last Ospho treatment, which will require one last sanding I think, and then zinc primer tomorrow.

So that's a total of four of those 3M disks, one scotch Brite, 2 quarts Ospho, 6 sheets of 220 grit wet n dry paper.

Final shots post 3rd and final acid wash and wet sand. Yes it has a flash rust of blush, but it looks much worse in the pic than it does up close.

Tomorrow we paint.

First coat. Got to go to a wedding, if it's not windy when I get home it gets a second coat.

Hey, if you ever get to painting the chassis or underside of the body, I'd like to throw a shout out to POR-15. It's a self-curing single-stage paint with a rust inhibitor in it. It is unbelievably tough once cured, it will not chip out. It generally comes in only a few colors so its not completely appropriate for body work, but man it looks great on the frame, wheel wells, and undercarriage. I painted the bed of the brick with it, and I absolutely love it.

I'm curious Crypto, did you cover the POR after? It's not particularly UV stable. I had planned on doing the roof with it, but decided not to for that reason. I already have it though, and the floor is getting POR treatment. This is a Unibody, so I have no frame to paint, but if I do get under there, (Haven't even pressure washed the undercarriage yet...) It will be epoxy for that very reason.

No I didnt, but the truck has been garaged ever since, and the end game is a spray-in bedliner. Oh, I also POR'ed in the inside of the doors and the floorpans.

That's what I figured, and a great choice. I toyed with the idea of beliner on the floors but decided to just do the POR and then a ply floor on top. and that will be covered in... something...

Drove the thing to work today with no issues with the cooling system. I cannot express how happy I am to be moving on from running gear work to the comfort and cosmetics :)

Getting back onto the body work. Went out and got my birthday present first though.

Yeah, I know it's an HF welder, but I only need to weld small stuff, and at 85$, how can I really go wrong?

So here is my "instant Ghetto" CDX and milk crate bed. We are going camping this weekend and decided not to tent it. I don't want to mount anything at this point so this is just for this weekend. Also re-installed the heater after a thorough cleaning. No idea what brand this heater is, but it's not stock Dodge.

New locks! These were not so easy to find, but when I did, they only ended up costing $10.00 each.

Going to get them re-keyed next week and then install.
