My new ride..

Post by Ringo » Thu Jun 26, 2008 6:34 pm

Well about a week ago I posted about having a problem with my VW - rolling noise and all that. After I got my commission, though, I picked up a great loan from my bank for the purposes of new auto procurement. As of today, I have a ride that'd do any ZS'er proud (until you hit the gas station. Then you cry).

My new fire engine..

2004 Ford F-150 Supercrew
4.6L V8, ridiculously low mileage
Power everything, 4x4.

It'll be in the ZS fleet as soon as I can find someone to make the sticker.

Any comments? I plan on putting some extras on it, but I want to do my research first, and recover from the hole in my bank account.

Erm. I hope by "Active Duty" you actually mean "permanently non-deployable", otherwise there is no way you're gonna get enough bang for your buck out of something THAT fuel-inefficient.

I sold my 1994 Honda Accord back in 2005 when I joined up.

I haven't bought a vehicle since.

So far, I haven't needed one.

Best of luck climbing out of that hole in your wallet. :)

EDIT: Edited to point out, in the interests of fairness, that if you use this truck to actually haul things, then you probably made a great choice. Especially if you have a second job in something like construction, or some other job where a truck is regularly needed.
Otherwise, I can't help looking at a vehicle like that without picturing burning oil fields.

I hope you have deep pockets because gas price will drown you deep.

It's a beautiful truck, for sure, but unless you use it with it's full potential and towing capacity, it's more of a money pit (gas).

Nice starting point for a technical. :)

Quick question: are you kinda short, or is that a REALLY HUGE vehicle?

True enough - if I was making O-1 pay I'd probably be throwing it all over the place too

Actually, no, I'm a cheapass. :| :(

Good laughs, guys. Thanks for the comments.

As for the usage - I hunt and fish a lot, so I needed something to get me in and out of the woods and on/off boat ramps, so it will do nicely. Plus I'll be moving several times in the next few years and I want something that can haul my junk without having to make 13 trips.

And yes - I parked in a handicap spot! My wallet is handicapped after the gas mileage. (nah my pops wanted me to park there for pictures)
AND YES - I am both somewhat short AND the truck is huge. I'm about 5'9" if that gives a picture. Hopefully sometime soon I'll get my first bike and mitigate my costs, but the loan I got for the truck was just waaaay too good. Anyway, thanks all.

Very nice dude. And good choice of color also, it looks very similar to the color of my old SVT Focus, infra red.
