I have been looking around for an affordable long gun safe/vault for my P.O.V. a '02 Chevy Tahoe. I currently have my AR in a Pelican gun case and have it chained to a hardpoint in the rear of the truck. I also have an alarm and limo tint on the back windows in hopes to deter theft, but that never stops anybody in this day and age. I have never felt totally comfortable with this but I am always on call and can be called in at a moments notice, no matter where I am.

I look forward to your suggestions and thanks for the help!

I assume from your profile pic that you're a cop somewhere. You could always try: http://www.galls.com/style.html?assort=general_catalog&style=VP218&cat=2693 or they have others: http://www.galls.com/category2.html?assort=general_catalog&cat=2693

You could always bolt one of those to the floor or ceiling and you'd be set. I wouldn't mind having one for my trunk actually. Oh and there's other places that sell similar things for cheaper, just none of them come to mind at the moment.

Thanks for the post. Yes, I am a detective. We have these types racks in our marked cars, and that is a great idea having it mounted down low. I could just cover it up with a bag or something to keep unwanted people from seeing it.

You can probably find a rectangular tuffy box in the dimensions to take the complete AR, or maybe a more square box to take an AR that's been seperatedinto upper and lower halves.
