I have been drooling over the Buell Ulysses since they first came out in 2006, and since I received a promotion recently, I have been more seriously considering buying a new motorcycle.

Well, on Saturday I woke up and started looking at motorcycle videos on the web, as I often do, and I was looking for Buell Ulysses videos on Youtube. I noticed one from a local Harley Davidson/Buell dealership, so I clicked on it and listened to the guy in the video explaining how they wouldn’t be carrying Buell motorcycles anymore as Buell had gone out of business on the 15th! He also explained that they only had 6 Buells left in stock and they were going to be sold at invoice or below.

I started calling around to local Buell dealers and quickly found a brand new 2009 Ulysses going for $8095 which was selling for $11,499 the day before. I talked to The Wife and she agreed that it was an awesome deal. With The Wife’s blessing I called them and asked them to hold it for me. A few hours later I became the proud owner of a new Buell Ulysses in Thrust Blue.

So now I have a new BOV. I plan on getting some touring bags for it eventually to increase the cargo capacity, other than that I plan on leaving it stock. I know it’s not the most capable off-road vehicle, but it will be able to handle logging and fire roads without a hiccup. That being said, I didn’t really buy it thinking it was a true Dual-Sport. One of these days I plan on adding a DRZ-400 with an XL gas tank to the stable.

Badass man. I had no idea they went out of business! I wonder if that's why Harley came out with that weird new Sportster that was like half Sporty, half Buell...

To make that thing more off-road ready, all you'd have to do is check the suspension, and add some more capable tires, I guess. Would probably help a lot. I mean if you're talking utility for off road use, and not ramp jumping, back flipping, blah blah... that'd make a big difference I assume.

Awesome bike. When I heard they were going out of business I was sad. They do some really cool things with motorcycles. Why the rest of the industry hasn't adopted belt drives, I'll never figure out. So much easier to maintain than a chain.

I HATED my Buell. The only liter+ bike I rode that had the power and feel of a 600. Some say tomato and some say tomato, I just did not like it.

So your handle doesn't stand for Harley Davidson and Buell?

That is weird. I wondered why on another forum somebody asked me if I liked Harley's, no clue what they were talking about. No my handle is actually something with my last name and an old occupation.

Lol the 2v air cooled Ducati's feel like they have 20hp more than they do, Thunderstorm Buells feel like they have 20hp less :D

I always sort of liked the Buells, but their lack of reliability and "issues" always scared away this "one bike at a time" owner. If the OP's dealer is opting out of the service program he should look up ECMSpy and learn how to fix his own lacklustre FI fueling and TPS resets. I've heard Uly's and XB's in general like to eat R/R's on a regular basis and it can take forever to order one so keeping a spare in the garage might be a good idea.
