Just a reminder (not directed toward Gunny because I know you make a point to get trained) but all these first-aid stuff is useless or dangerous if you don't know how to use it properly so got get trained.

There are plenty of places that offer very cheap or even free classes. The first-aid/CPR classes are good for basics but a lot of places will also teach "wilderness first-aid" which is better for helping to stabilize someone for a longer period of time when you're in an area that help can't get to very quickly.

That’s a sweet set up Gunny. The only things I would point out is that i didn't see the 3.25 Inch 14 Gauge Catheter and the Nasopharyngeal Airway.

Other than that you may want to consider looking into the Bolin Chest seal as a replacement for your ACS. Our medics recently went on a 15-20 minute rant about them in a recent combat lifesavers course that I took. This was of course after the 10 minute rant on how the SOFT Tourniquet was better than the C.A.T Tourniquet. I am no Medic but they are some of the best i have ever met and if those guys say it is that much better I would believe them. Just thought I would throw that out there didn’t know if you knew about them or not.

That combat lifesaver course was a great course it really made me realize how inadequate my current FAK is.

I need to get myself a digital camera and update my FAK's contents. I've changed it up a bit.

I've got NPA's, and Hemcons as well as a decompression needle or two (other than that I don't have too much call to use needles except potentially lancing).

As far as the CAT tourniquet goes, I like'em. They're easy to use, small and above all they work, quickly.

With regards to the ACS, I've never had to use one and I damn sure hope I don't have to.

I like the SOFT-T's better, but the army likes the CATs better. (as it is probably the price) Both are pretty good. CAT is for the less experienced medic as it is easier to use, and SOFT-T is more reliable, but takes a slight bit more thought.

The first post was just a teaser, here's the real meat and potatoes, my new and updated Squad Level Aid Bag.


The bag itself is a STOMP II made by London Bridge Trading Company.

Left Side. Note the attachment points: no idea what I'm going to do with those yet.


Back. This thing even comes with a chest and waist band.

Close up of loops. Basically this section is full of retention loops of all sizes. There is also a zippered compartment and 4 holding cells which I'll display later.

Underneath the loop structure, underneath the Kerlix is a small zippered compartment that's just big enough for:


-2 Spare Israeli Bandages
-2 Spare C.A.T. Tourniquets (not exactly sure if I'll leave this section as is or modify its contents.


Underneath the main lid of the bag you'll find two mesh covered zippered pouches.


Here's the first pouch: can you guess what's inside yet?


-7 rolls of 3M tape
-6 ACE bandages in 3 different sizes


Inside the opposite pouch you'll find:


-2 SAM Splints
-2 Large Quik Clot Packets (Granular)
-3 Rolls of 3M tape

Underneath the padded cell is a compartment for IV solution bags (basically it's a large bag with draw strings and buckles to keep your IV's secure).

I borrowed these IV bags from an EMT friend of mine. For the demonstration I've shown how you're supposed to fast pack your IV's so, in the event that someone needs one, you can readily grab everything you need to administer an IV on the spot.
What you're looking at is:
-2 Catheters
-2 Alcohol Prep Wipes
IV Tubing
1000ML of Lactated Ringers
Grobes
Penrose Drain (used as a tourniquet)
Tape to secure it all (when, if removed properly, can secure the catheter)

Here's the back of the main cell. What you're looking at is two zippered mesh pouches, three slit pouches and two removable pouches (note the red and blue handles) for various gear. Their original intent was an airway kit and an injectibles kit, but I'm modifying them slightly. More to come once I figure out what to put in here.

Not only that, but the brave postal worker actually navigated 1.1 miles of dirt road to drop it off on the front porch!!!!

It's amazing what a little holiday "gratuity" left for your friendly neighborhood postal worker will do!

Anyways, I opened mine up right away, and after I started digging, I got lost in the damn thing and couldn't find my way out for 20 minutes!!! Talk about HUGE!!!! I'm not going near it again without my compass and some rations.

JRod the first IFAK pictured (kifaru foldout) will stay in my BOB, but this bag will be my main trauma bag I keep in my BOV.
