Damn, I knew I should have taken the camera with me that day...anyway, just keep swallowing and it'll be allright...

And I'm fine with being a nurse, especially with all those cute, blond female nurses around me (again no pics :( ), while you'll have to do with hairy GI's .

Ow well doc, guess everybody has their preferences...

So, trying out things to be done to the patient, eh? Urinary self catheterization? Any takers? Going once, twice, three times....

BTW Doc, make sure none of the Army nurses hear you saying that. They all outrank you.

Well actually...

I think you're a real bad-ass if you volunteer to get a I.O. in the chest on yourself..

Off course, being strapped to a spine-board and then placed upside-down under the shower while your collegues get some coffee is always a good laugh...

Screw all that noise man. I know guys that have volunteered for all these crazy stunts. As for me, if it wasn't required, I skipped the pain. On graduation they handed me an M-4 to be used on people that might be my patients moments later. No one ever suggested I needed to take a round to understand what they were going through.

Doc

I never needed a medic while I was in, but if I had I would have wanted a well prepared smart ass like you. Gald to know you are there taking care of our folks. Drive on

NFA's FAK & Trauma Bag

Postby Jamie » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:37 am

Image
This is my old Fak and Trauma bag
(not really, but the old one is much smaller, and is now relegated to EDC status...if you really want to, you can look at it here)

NFA's FAK wrote:Image
My new and improved FAK lives in a Mountainsmith pack...

{in the foreground you can my cheagle looking on, calmed by the prospect of flawless victory}

Image
As you can see, my model can support the weight of the loaded bag without a problem...

Image
The top, outside, zipped pocket contains: Leatherman Squirt P4, Fox40 Whistle, Fenix L2D flashlight, and a foam clown nose...

Image
The bottom, outside, zipped pocket contains: "Mountaineering Medicine" (a great little book on 1st-aid), rite in the rain notebook, sharpies, hand-sanitizer gel packets, nitrile gloves, fire-starting kit...

Inside the main pocket, I have a bunch of ziplocked bags of supplies by use:

Image
Wipes and ammonia inhalants...

Image
Along the back of the pack, there is a divider, behind which I have a heavy-weight space blanket and some bandanas...

Image
Some miscellaneous supplies - scissors/forceps, SAM splint, cold-pack, betadine surgical scrub (not that I'll be performing surgery, but these things allow you to really clean your hands, even under fingernails, if you need to get in someone's bloody bits), and Gatorade for rehydration (I use twice as much water as indicated in the directions)...

Image
Gauze and combine dressings...

Image
Meds - reusable thermometer, suntan goop, benadryl, blistex, triple antibiotic goop, cough drops, aspirin/advil/tylenol, actifed, pepto-bismol, immodium, hydrocortisone goop...

Image
Minor wound closure - bandaids aplenty, steri-strips, superglue, and some moleskin hiding in the pile of bandaids

Image
Trauma dressings - israeli bandage, bloodstopper dressing, aberdeen dressing, muslin bandage...

Image
Kerlix...6 of them...

Image
Tape...7 rolls...

NFA's Trauma Bag wrote:Image
My Trauma Bag is a companion piece to the FAK, designed with broken or leaky people in mind...

Image
The main pocket contains most of the stuff...

Image
The contents of the main pocket - 3 izzy's, SAM splint, space blanket, 3 bloodstopper dressings, 4 combine dressings, 4 gauze pads, Celox clotting agent, QuikClot sponge, 2 Asherman Chest Seals (ACS), 6 packages of Kerlix...

Image
There's a sleeve/pocket/space in between the pockets, just right for another copy of "mountaineering medicine", a rite in the rain pad, a couple of sharpies, and some antibacterial wipes...

Image
The middle pocket has - a betadine surgical scrub (with fingernail scraper), nitrile gloves, saline for wound irrigation...

Image
The final pocket has - scissors, forceps, clothes rippers, muslin bandage, 5 rolls of tape, and a business card-wrap of gorilla tape...

No one else has a vehicle-mounted machine gun in their kit. Therefore, Doc Simon already wins.

For practicality (sp) im gonna say NFA wins.

How in the hell do you other participants plan to carry your bag with your bug out gear, weapons, and other stuff?

Grats NFA, you're the winner in my book

I apologize to everyone for the low quality of these shots. These were taken a few months ago, and the M-5 has changed somewhat since.
This is my pregnant M-5, salvaged from the army before it was destroyed. total cost: 20$ for a new zipper.
Image

these are the content of the upper pouch. Hemostatic agents, collapsible BVM, and syringes and crich kit.
Image

The REAL airway kit. Sterile surgical gloves, two ET tubes, King LT, andan additional chrich kit.
Image

This is the bleeding control section. one large and one small IZZY. the big kerlix rolls have been replaced by a dozen compressed ones. Ace wraps have been increased to 4 4" and 2 6".
Image

Main compartment: Two SAMS, One finger Sam, 4 IV starter kits, Two IV drip sets, 2 500cc NS, 1 500cc hextend, a stapler, and Coban.
Image

A few of the new Items. Suction, minor sug. kit, ENT kit, and a pressure wrap. Note the blue bag in the corner. It is six ashermans with hydrogel modifications
Image

There is some other stuff: chest tubes, nitrile gloves, Abdominal dressings, ect. but I have toleave this room in ten minutes and don't have time to finish this off well.
For the obvious questions that will come up: Yes, I am qualified to use any of this, though without a medical control, it is all PAW medicine. I would go to jail for using most of this stuff right now.
Weight. Yes it is heavy. About 18 pounds. Medics carry a heavier load than anyone that isn't a radio man. That is the life we volunteered for. I'm out; will see you crazy kids later. [/img]]

Well in that case....

Doc Simon wrote:Alright, I am going to go ahead and post some pics of my dismount bag, they are decent. The rest will have to wait until I find someone with steady hands to take the rest of the pics (or maybe get better lighting?) They aren't worth dick right now.

This is the bag I carry anytime I will be traveling more than 50 meters from my vehicle on foot. I used to dismount with my full Stomp II aidbag but medics tend to get shot that way anymore so we have to carry things that look like any kind of tactical gear. These are the things that I will likely need in the event of an attack and/or are the things I cant leave laying about cause Joe tends to steal things, like morphine, script pads, and Pulse Ox. So I have to keep them near me. Also I normally have my duct tape attached to this bag, but I keep that in my vehicle when not on missions because of the bulk. On my person I also carry 2 asherman chest seals, 2 CATs, 2 SOFT-Ts, 2 Ace Wraps, 2 Kerlix, one compression gauze, one NPA, one 3.25" 14ga decompression needle, 2 PR gloves, 1 set of trauma shears, and probably a few other things I cant think of, but basically stuff along this line. The purpose of this bag is to serve a minimalistic purpose, care under fire, and short time tactical field care until our location is secured by vehicles, then I will retire this bag and work out of my stomp II.

The bag I am speaking of is the one in this pic:

Image

Here it is next to my blackhawk stomp II
Image
I had no say so in the color on the stomp II so dont give me any of that mall ninja shit. I asked to spray paint it and was denied. Fuck a bunch of black aid bags.

With top flap open. You'll notice that I have tied on extra grips on my zippers, I like them better than the ones that come on it.
Image

The pockets on the side... these are the contents: 5 pair xl gloves, 1 sure fire flashlight.
Image

ImageHere is the back. I've taken the knife out of the black sheath. That is an E&K model 5 knife

ImageHere it is open. Tape, pulse ox, and my controled substances floating around on top. (when I am on mission the morphine and pulse ox are stored in an ammo can in the truck as to prevent them from shitting up my aid bag)

Once you take out the tape and sensitive items this is what is in there:
Image
The inside is devided into three sections. The layout follows...

Image
On the left side is the first pocket:
1 EPI Pen
2 HemCon Bandages
2 CAT TQs
1 SOFT TQ
1 IV Set of Hextend 500ML

The bottom rightish section is the middle pocket:
9 Kerlix
6 Compression Gauze

The middle section is the third pocket:
4 ACE Wraps
2 LRG ETDs
1 MED ETD

The top righish was the stuff floating on top:
3 Rolls 1 inch tape
2 Auto injectors of Morphine
1 Auto injector of Narcan
1 Vial Phenagren
2 Syringes
Pulse Ox
My perscription pad
