In truck setup so far...

Post by SteveD » Sun Nov 06, 2011 12:18 pm

First pic shows the cheap Cobra cb\7 weather channels. The 2 meter radio is a Yeusa ft-2900. Also shown are the two extra aux 12v ports.

Image

The second pic shows the 5/8 wave 2meter antenna and the 1/4 wave cb antenna. Both for now are mag mounts.

Image

The last pic shows the remote fuse panel under the back seat in the truck.

Image

The reason I say so far is because the cb will be upgraded to a 10 meter/cb combo unit when I get my general ticket. The antenna's will be replaced when the money gets allotted. And the wood mount will get refined until I'm happy with it.

Another thing--one of these days I'll have to change the date code on the camera

Nicely done! Where did you find the fuse blocks? - if I may inquire. Nice touch with the diagram.

BTW, I'm not aware of any type-accepted CB + 10M radios. Are they new to the market?

The fuse blocks are ones are parts from the local auto part stores.

On the combo unit my google fu is weak today, but I thought that is what I saw at my local communication store.

10m + CB units are illegal, and the FCC has really started to crack down on them.

I would recommend Anderson Power Poles for more versatility. Looks Good!

I'd also suggest the powerpoles, even if they're inline on the radio cords. A cover for that fuse block would be a good idea as well.

Thanks for the tip on the power poles. Will have to get some.
The cover for the power fuse block--I'll scrounge around for a small chunk of plexiglass.
On that combo unit,it must have been on his shelf for a while because it had a cover of dust on it. I'll steer clear of it.

On the powerpoles, the ARES groups I belong to use "red right, tab up" as their standard configuration.

OK nacho......
How about this :D

4 hours later its rebuilt.

Got rid of the nasty mag mounts and added a light weight rack on the topper for antennas. Both antennas are 5/8th wave.

With the terrain in Central WI I got about 5 miles depending. The 5/8 wave gets me a bit further.
