I hope you don't mind, but I cleaned up your notes DrJest, and made a pdf so people could download it. Let me know if you want me to take it offline.

WoG,

I don't mind at all. They look fine. And they'll make it easier for people to download and print.

I consider myself the ultimate ham noob (no radio, electronics experience at all), and after looking at your notes for about an hour this afternoon I scored an 84, so I'd vouch for em too. :)

ed: Took 3 different tests at 3 sites, and have scored in the 83-86 range. I think if I can memorize the formulas and figure out the mhz calculations I'll be consistently in the 90s. I guess I should think about scheduling a test??

Yeah, I'd say if you're consistently scoring in the mid-80s, you're ready. :)

I have been working on the wiki a bit, and I added 2 No-Nonsense guides (1 tech and 1 general) for passing the test. Basically you read a paragraph about a particular subject and you see the exact words that will be used on the test explaining the particular subject. They are created by KB6NU.

These make it really easy to pass, and if the other notes are added there as well, then people will start running out of excuses :)

There is a new question pool as of July 1, 2010, for the Tech license. My notes are probably still okay, but when I get some time I'll try to revise them to reflect any changes in the question pool.

The ARRL has them...I haven't gotten to revising my notes yet. That will take a while.

There's a bunch of practice tests and study guides on the internet that can get you licensed quickly, or, test your knowledge. Personally, I used QRZ's website and found a nice one there. These have the updated question pools included in them, as well as links to other helpful sites.

Some of the links I've used to help study:

http://aa9pw.com/ and http://www.radioexam.org/exam for technician. I believe the first link has some for general and extra exams as well

I'm working on my Technician right now. I've got the ARRL's Technician License Manual. But it's a bit to textbook-ish (flashbacks to college). Printed off these notes to read at work today since it's gonna be slow.
Found out there's an exam in my AO tomorrow; I might give that a whirl if I can get some solid reading done.

Well, I done passed. Odd, because I did not feel particularly good about it afterward. But I passed. Used the notes posted earlier in this thread. That book was getting to be too much.

They are out of date but are still generally useful - they do need updating.

I get a "Site temporarily disabled" message.

EDITING TO ADD:

I just posted this below in another thread, but here is one of the current best websites regarding study materials:
http://www.nc4fb.org/wordpress/?page_id=1773

They have study guides, flash cards, and links to online exams that are all current and up to date.
