List of Channels

Postby DrTank09 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 5:33 pm

I only went 10 pages deep before I decided to simply ask. Do we happen to have a list of important channels for communications networks? Like for instance, I am aware that there should be a specific frequency for emergency broadcasting. I would like to see a compiled list of channels along with the means to access them. These could include what we know to be for specific government use only as well, such as the weather radio channel, fire-department, police, etc. If listing a specific channel is a violation of any rules or regulations then don't put that specific one but I would be interested in some channels that others know of on a national or even state level?

I have such a list.

But is only good for MY AO and lists stuff I think will be important.

You should know your local EAS stations, all outlets. Past that, I can't help much - I don't know where you live or even what you can monitor....

List of Channels

Try radioreference.com most frequencies are listed. They have both a database for public safety and amateur repeaters. Bet scanner reference I have found.

When you compile your list, think about including any 'group standard' frequencies you and your friends may use as well. Select and record your pre-determined 'meet up' frequencies for your bands of choice so your group can coordinate your actions later.
You can't fix stupid.

Thanks for the help, one problem with the whole group standard is that I am not a part of any group. I move around constantly. I move into a new apartment almost every other month (school/work/family/money). The whole reason i wanted to compile this list is so that should nets ever go down, I want to have list for wherever I am. I figured there has to be a few frequencies that are national level. Then from there I guess I will have to go to each individual state to figure out the frequencies. Thanks for the help though, guys.

If you move around a lot you could try buying a cheap analog scanner and programming in these off the shelf, 'average citizen' channels into a scan group. the scanners come with the Fire, weather, marine, air and Emergency channels pre programmed.

these are for your standard FM walkies. CB radios and liscenced walkie talkies. all analog though.

should get you started.

Just to clarify my previous post. If you're lucky enough to be in a 'first world country' when the SHTF, it will more than likely have a EBS/EAS so all you'll need is a battery powered TV or radio and the EAS should give those frequencies out at that time. [barring an incompetant govt employee or total loss of infrastructure] So the channels to use will be given out via EAS/EBS on TV or AM/FM Radio.

And remember, the governments will want to give this information out over frequencies that are easily accessable to their average citizens. That's why I mentioned programming a scanner group with CB/FR/GRMS frequecies, because they are the ones that the average citizen can afford the hardware to utilize. And they're analog, so that's a cheap scanner. The scanner has those frequencies already programmed but they will be separated by a few hundred other frequecies that may take more than a minute or two to scan. If you program these as a scan group it only takes a second or so to scan them all and so you really can't miss a transmission on that group.

Also the average citizens' hardware doesn't scramble or is not encrypted so you can monitor most of the traffic in your AO, be it for good or bad. If there are people operating with digital equipment or with any equipment that can scramble a signal, and they do scramble their transmissions, you won't be able to listen to them no matter what your hardware investment. [maybe just the burst that lets you know someone may be in your AO with that type of equipment.] But for you and your 'clan' you should probably invest in the more sofisticated hardware that allows you to scramble your signal, so you can operate without being monitored. [by most]
