Aye! Good luck!

Take a stab at the general as well, just to see what to expect!

Jinx, EtAl.,

If you used the ARRL study guides you'll have no problems at all. I hope to test for Tech/General when home on leave early next year. Then study for Extra the second half of my tour. May even try getting a radio to tinker with in Afghanistan, if allowed. Over here you have to travel light so I’ll be looking at small portable rig/antenna systems. For the most part I’m personally more interested in data rather than phone transmissions; there are just so many possibilities!

Cheers,
W-W

Just got home. Passed my test, missed one question due to a brain fart. VEC's will send it off monday.

Now, whats a cheap hand-held to get started with?

Not too long ago, after I passed my tech test, I purchased a Yaesu FT-270, good radio to learn on, less than $150.

I must say, I feel kinda stupid for being scared of that test. Most of it is common sense.

I should have taken it 10 years ago.

Congrats! Check out the swap meet on qrz.com, and pick up something used and cheap. I've been happy with the radios I've gotten from there.

TRUST ME...... it is extremely easy.

I went through the practice tests on the arrl website (this one in particular http://kb0mga.net/exams/ ) After about 3 nights I went through all the flash cards and was scoring 95% or better on the practice exams.

Again, it is that easy.

I'm very fond of my VX-7R. It's built like a tank and aside from some programming idiosyncrasies, will offer you quite a long service life. Mine has taken a couple of tumbles out of my Cherokee and survived the whole ordeal without a scratch!

http://universal-radio.com/catalog/ht.html is a good place to start. If you shop around, you can typically do a bit better than that price wise.

You know when non-gun people say silly things like "the shoulder thing that goes up"? This is the fiscal policy equivalent of that.

Congrats' I really like the FT-60R, dual band, sub $200 after tax, durable, good battery pack, wide Rx, makes a good scanner.

Congrats Jinx! On to General! It's really not so bad. Still lots of common sense. Now the extra... I didn't even understand some of the words on that test...
I love my VX-5R and hope to upgrade to the 7R or 8R soon.

Congrats on passing. Don't stop with a handheld. You will soon want a decent mobile with can also be hooked to a power supply and used a s a base station too. There are plenty of models to chose from. Just shop around and find something youlike in your price range. Good luck.

What kind of time frame can I expect before the FCC posts my application?

I bet you wouldnt believe this, but I have been checking every few hours.

If I remember right, tests on Saturday typically show up on Wednesday. But I can't remember if its a real time system where you'd just show up, or if the FCC servers are batch loaded that night, so you'd see it tomorrow.

Kinda sucks waiting for that call sign huh. Don't worry, wait will be over shortly!
