Mountain man invades cabins

Postby LastBoyScout » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:38 pm

Not sure I put this in the right topic if wrong please repost and my apologies.

This guy is in Salt Lake City area.

This could be the kind of people we have to deal with in a SHTF scenario or PAW.

If you look at the comments from people on the link you get a weird view of what people think about what he is doing.

This is why I carry a gun. (Ok sometimes two)

I see what you mean about the strangeness of the comments, OP.

Those are going to be the real danger in the PAW; the clueless masses who think it's not all that bad to break into other people's houses and steal. They will demand that authorities "equitably redistribute" your "hoarded" supplies whilst demanding understanding, compassion, and clemency for looters.

Reading the comments make me cringe.

One thing is for sure, if you're planning to stock a BOL and not live there full time, you'd better put those supplies into caches and be sure they aren't easily found by others.

I think most of the replies are based on the fact that they can't possibly understand what kind of wealth most of these folks have to have dedicated summer homes in the mountains.

Without getting political, it more of a class issue.. some poor sod reading this from his crappy apartment in the ratrace of DC of NYC probably looks up to this guy a bit.

I actually think it is kind of sad.. Living in a rural mt town on Colorado for 7 years, we used to see the true mountain men come out of the bush in the Spring and we respected them.. they weren't squatting in some rich guys house, they were living and surviving in extremely adverse conditions.

I think that is the disconnect.. city folk see it as escapism and nothing more.

Dup post, this was covered over - what - a year ago, when this was news-ish.

Dude is in the slammer IIRC.

Just goes to show - don't leave anything out and count on it being there when you need it.

A pre-PAW looter. Some people don't wait for the apocalypse.

The article is from Feb 2012 so it could not have been covered over a year ago.

The issue is not just the actions of the "guy" but the comments from people.

This article is from May of this year and relates how they are still looking for him. Maybe you were thinking of another guy or an article came out other then this one about the same issue as it has been going on for 5 years. I did a search before I posted and did not find anything.

Way to stay apolitical. I figured looters would just try to use violence, rather than using the governmental systems that are a core part of our legal system.

As far as the guns, it would be just like having your home broken into.

We have a similar dude over here, roaming around braking in to cabins, living there for a while then trashing the place, taking a dump on the floor and leaving for the next one. He's been caught and convicted multiple times starting in the late 80's, and gone right back at it when he gets out. In total he's been convicted for 664 cabin brake-ins! Just goes to prove that it's very hard to protect against and catch people like that. I'm just glad our guy is not armed and seems a bit more sane than yours:P Pretty sure he's locked up these days.
