Have fun all and be safe.

One of these years I will join you. Maybe get some of the other Michigan folks to caravan down. Right now, my vehicle barely gets me to work and back, let alone an 8 hour drive.

BTW, does anyone have GPS co ordinates to the site? I would really like to have those.

Poncho: yea or nay? Or maybe just one of those dollar store emergency ponchos?

I ain't bringing one because I figure I'll be drenched either way.

I'm either going to be hot, and covered in sweat, or I'll be rained on and covered in water. Either way I'm just gonna keep a towel in a dry place near my tent.

Then I remembered how little space they take up, and that there's one in my truck anyways 'just in case'... so maybe I will.

These are my thoughts. Im not hiking one up to the top of the hill but I might toss one in the truck. I have some dry bags and an otterbox waterproof/shockproof case doomaflachie that I will put my sensitive electronics in.

Man I'm freakin' giddy.

Anyone else excited?

I'm freakin' giddy.

Just checked most of my gear for function. I even have my new "self-inflating" mat out. Had my nephew test it out under his sleeping bag, on the living room floor, for comfort when he came down to visit for memorial day with the rest of my family. Now I'm just making sure it holds air.

One thing I need is something for uh... slippage control. Last time I slept on unevan or sloped ground, my sleeping bag had a tendency to slide on my nylon tent floor. It has a shitty rubber padding to it that is supposed to increase friction but eh... I need something better fo sho. Especially with adding another layer of nylon material, with the sleeping pad.

Idears?

GPS coordinates and the location of the site is released only to those attending ZCON. It is private property and we do our best to keep it "private" at the owners request.

Hope you can make it out one of these years!

Shelf liner. The rubberized shelf liner stuff that can be bought in a roll at a dollar store. Worked fine for me to keep my air mattress from slipping.

Shelf liner works great, so do neoprene yoga mats. Anything to make your gear stick to the floor. They also sell the shelf /drawer liner stuff for holding area rugs in place on hardwood floors.

Cool. Wish I had known. Maybe next year I will have a better vehicle and I know I will have the time off. Appreciate the offer. :D

I would say not...it's a big hill, and there's a lot of room. You just have to look around a bit to find a spot big enough and flat enough, but there's plenty of room.

Finding a spot on the hill without scrub cedars or bushes growing out of it in a 10x10 clearing wont be too hard.

Finding a level spot that big may be more of a challenge, you may end up going a little ways up the hill, or to the first clearing.

Shouldnt be a problem though.

Can you please tell me how water is handled on the mountain? Is it collected up stream from manbath then filtered? I think that is what I gather from my readings so far. I just want to make sure there will be no dehydration issues or if I need to pack loads of water to bring. Thanks!

Water is brought from upstream of manbath, collected in 5-gallon jerrycans, then purified with bleach and poured into 4 gigantic Berkey camp filters.

There will be water. Lots of water.

LESS THAN 10 DAYS!!!!

I'm both giddy with excitement, and anticipation

and last minute planning thoughts.... I think I need to just take a deep breath, remember that I just did a bugout, AND survived, realize no matter what, I'm NOT going to be as prepped as I would like now, nor ever, and that knowledge beats gear anyday, also realize that with the people that are coming, by a comparison I am a total newb and will INEVITABLY make a fool of myself, I just need to deal with it and have a good time, any remaining concerns will be taken care of by the booze

...and thanks to you, again, crypto, for making it so that step #1 is no longer "bust your left nut carrying jerrycans of water up the Big Damn Hill from Manbath."

LOL, don't thank me until after z-con is over.

I just fired up the pump last weekend to function check it, but I'm still shocked that some PVC bullshit I assembled from plans I got on the Internet actually works reliably. :D

Anyone from St. Louis heading down to Z-con late Friday afternoon early evening, Holly would like to catch a ride and share gas expenses.

Agree. Sara and I have been setting up tents and picking which one we're going to use. She took one look at my default tent and immediately got claustrophobic, haha. No featherlight camping for us this year, but with two of us carrying gear, it may even be easier! I don't have any new shiny gear I'm looking to try out or anything, but I am going to set up in a new spot. My 09 & 10 spot left me facing the sun, blistering heat at 6:30am. I'm turbo excited about getting up there. I miss that Big Damn Hill.

I've also got some new swim wear to try out. Is there a theme for this year?
I'd like to mention that my mother is, in fact, a saint. A very caring person, she was cursed with the gift of good looks, and then came the internet.

I just picked up a handfull of Cuban cigars. Will have them for barter and or cost if anyone wants some. I'm travelling real light on the food this year and am always willing to barter for meals that aren't packets of rice. Mmm cigars.
