Central Texas Range Day and Get Together (Open to all)

Post by 3Fingas » Sun Jul 04, 2010 10:43 pm

I am proposing a get-together for Central Texas ZS Members on Saturday, 17 July. This meeting is also open to anyone else who wants to attend.

I thought we could meet at the Bullet Hole Range in San Antonio at 10:00 A.M.

http://www.bullethole.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can secure us a private bay for our group to shoot. The private bay is a fenced-in area (giant logs line the range boundaries, earthen berm in the impact/target area) where we can shoot any weapons we choose (rifle, pistol, and shotgun). Since, it's a private area, we control range-breaks and target changes. Of course, safety will be paramount. We will discuss safety rules, procedures, and range policies before we begin any shooting. Target distances are only out to ~30-40 meters, but this is perfect for zeroing rifles, shooting pistols, and shooting shotguns. In the private bay areas, you can practice off-hand, sitting, kneeling, and prone positions unlike the public areas where only bench-rest shooting is allowed.

Anyhow, I have used these bays safely many times with my family, friends, and co-workers. We have even had some company-sanctioned outings here. I prefer these bays to shooting in the public areas of the range precisely because we control what goes on.

The admission price is 10.00/person for the private bay and another $2.00 for non-range members. We can rent a bay for 2 hours.

I will be bringing my Saigas (.308 and 7.62x39), AR-15, and several pistols (glocks, 1911). I can bring spare ammo as well. You can bring whatever weapons (rifle, pistol, shotgun ... no flame-throwers or blue-cord wrapped Katanas, please  ) and ammo you have ... If anyone does not have a weapon or just wants to try something different, they can try mine. Again, I will review safe-handling procedures prior to shooting. The range also has weapon rentals where you have to use range-purchased ammo, but this may be pricey. Please check with their website for costs.

After a safe and fun couple of hours at the range, I was thinking we could go to the local Taco Cabana or Tink-a-Taco (a local restaurant) and have some nachos and get to know each other better. We don't have to discuss Zombies, but I am sure the topic will most likely come up. :D
If you don't want to shoot -- no problem. Meet up with us at the restaurant around 12:30. Either way, it should be a fun time for all.

I will post restaurant directions PM interest parties additional contact info when I get some feedback.

Let me know if you are interested so I can get a good head count. Also, please let me know if you are going to the range, just the restaurant, or both. If you are going to range, please tell me what weapons you are bringing. If you don't have a weapon, but still want to go shooting, please also let me know that as well.

Look forward to seeing you all there. Happy Independence Day!

I'll pretend like I have a chance of making it, but I'm pretty sure my lil' bro who lives in IA is coming down that weekend, so really it's like 0. I'd love to make it if I'm wrong though, we'll see.

Unfortunately, I have to work that day from 1400 to 2200 so I will miss this one. I hope to make another one down the road but since our schedule changes on a regular basis, I can't predict from month to month.

I don't see why I can't make it. I'll be happy to use up glitch's gas and ride along. Besides I got my guns back from their manufacturers so maybe this time they will work  .

Looks like pretty good participation so far. Remember, I need the following info:

Just going to range?
Just going to restaurant?
Going to Both?
Bringing weapon(s)? If so, what type?
Want to go the range, but don't have a weapon? (This is no problem as I said ... just have to make sure I/we bring extra ammo)
Don't want to go to the range ... no problem, just meet us at the restaurant at around 12:30 ish....I will pm you contact info, so
we all can meet up

If you are bringing a weapon, I recommend bringing at least 50-100 rds/weapon...just depends how much you want to shoot. We can rent
the bay for 2 hours.

Anyhow, I look forward to seeing everyone who has already said they would go (yes, even Dubbya  ). I hope that a bunch of new
folks can make it as well.

I will send a pm to all rsvp'd as we get closer to the date with my personal contact info.

Talk at y'all later.

Damn yankee. I'm down for the whole shootin' match. I'll bring my .22 (the more accurate one) and my .270. Maybe a pistol too. If you want anything more personal than that, it will cost you a 12 pack of Lone Star.

Yeah, I was thinking we could do that. Glitch, what happened with the other canned items we brought last time?
