I would post it if I knew where burro canyon was so I could post the address.

Google it. I can't because I'm still at work, and work has deemed guns and knives a bad thing on the internet, so it's blocked.

Ok. The next meetup should be with our buddies out in the high desert. Maybe an overnight camping thing with lots of guns and shooting. I remember them having some good ideas on charitable events as well.

I messaged Soopkan. Let's see if he's got access to his range that weekend. He might be celebrating with his soul brothers out in the High Desert though, you never know.

I'll see what I can do. My life is a bit hetic right now. Holidays, trying to get into the LAPD (trying to remember my life for the last 34 years for their freaking background check), massive cleaning binge to get the home office and workshop back into shape, taking care of my Grandparnets (running them to Dr. appointment etc.), and trying to loose 15 pounds before the 1st.

I got on an excersie bike about three weeks ago and couldn't hang for 5 min at a moderate pace with light resistance. Go figure I can sling 90 lb cement bags, demo a kitchen in 15 to 20 min, carry material up and down stairs all day but 5 freaking min on a exercise bike kicked my a@@. Happy to say I am now up to 30 min and 3/4 on the speed dial with medium restiance.

I will keep in touch though. Sorry for the spelling but in a hurry and have to go.

I talked to Soopkan the other day. Looks like we're on for MLK weekend at the Lions Club shooting range in Lucerne Valley. Camping over night is $8 per person. We can shoot at night and should have the entire place to ourselves on sunday. They even have a crazy cowboy town at the range with reactive targets. (soft nose bulltes only)
Beats the hell out of me where this place is. Soopkan told me I wouldn't be able to Google it. He'll have to get back to me to confirm if we have the place to ourselves on Sunday.
The range has facilities for skeet, rifle and pistol. Bathroom facilities, water and septic too.
I'll post verified stuff soon. In the meantime, mark your calendars for Jan 17th and 18th at least. Oh, and dress warm.

Not sure Biff. You should put your area code into your profile or something, then we'd know you do special effects in socal and not some other place.

Ok, so I just returned from my week long hunting trip... I killed a giant wild pig and butchered it myself, so now I can add "big game hunter" to my resume. I may put together a slideshow of some of the different aspects. For some of the things Garith said... yea, suddenly having a much higher activity level than you are used to is easily the best way I've found to get into shape. Early in the week I couldn't go on the forced march around the property, by the end I was just going straight over the hills and ridges because i was too lazy to go around. I am likely to be trying my hand at making sausage with some of the meat, I may bring some to the next meet up we do depending on how it comes out. (hope you like it spicy, I'm thinking habanero and jalapeno with all the paprika I can stand)

I should be down for the trip to lucerne, I think I may have to take a day off for that (don't think it's covered under the standard days off) but I should be able to pull that off. I may see if I can get some more of the 23 (the offroad club I belong to) people to show up. If anyone is willing to work with me, it's also possible we could put together some kind of night shooting class (since access to a night range is fairly rare). Maybe run either some pistol or shotgun stuff.

According to Soopkan, we can shoot the hell out of the cowboy town as long as we use lead (soft nose) ammo. Did I mention that the targets are the kind that pop out to surprise you?
Can't wait to check that out...

As far as rifle ammo, would some of the steelsafe frangible ammo be kosher?
While I hate to plug, it's a product I help develop at the company and I can get it without a lot of hassle. Right now it's availible in .223 and runs through AR-15 and M4 without issues. If anyone wants some let me know and I'll get some components and do a limited run, the components are kinda pricey though...

It seems the moon should be at about half phase, so lighting should be decent out there.

Hey Mr. Salesman, do you guys make frangible ammo for .38spl or .45ACP?
Hell, while we're at it, how about frangible slugs?
And where's my ammo can?

We don't make frangible ammo for either of these at work. But I do have the components to do it, so realistically I could load some up and bring them out.

I'd like a demonstration. Perhaps our version of box truth. We can shoot a cheap lock and see if the frangible slug destroys it.

Frangible won't do anything to a lock, hence the name. It's designed to break apart when it comes into contact with a hard surface. It's supposed to do this so well that any fragments from it are too small to cause injury. I've fired a full mag from an M-16 at a steel plate 8" from the muzzle and didn't even get a scratch, and the steel wasn't damaged either.

If you want to play destroy the lock, I have other stuff that would make quick work of that.

Let's see it then...
I'll start a real thread for this weekend we're planning tomorrow. I want to get some more info from Soopkan, and I think the Lions Club holds meetings on wednesday nights.
