Help me choose a new bag for EDC

Postby USMZ » Thu Aug 02, 2012 4:28 am

I currently have an Oakley Icon 2.0 - great everyday bag - huge inside nice appearance ect I love it and have rocked it for 2 years, but lately I been thinking it's a little too big for every day, since I'm not carrying as much stuff.

I have been looking at a boblbee MEGALOPOLIS SPORT http://www.boblbee.com/rw/artiklar/kategorilfullpost.asp?ID=830&flik=219&acc=. It looks awesome, but costs a bomb. My wife says it looks stupid, but I like the futuristic design.

Or just a humble crumpler messenger Bag.

Daily I carry:
Lunch
Usually a A4 book
Ipad
Small toiletry bag ( shift worker)
Stethoscope
spare socks
Swiss army knife + P38
Note book
Pencil case
Tin of Green Tea

Any help welcome

For an EDC backpack, I am absolutely thrilled with my Camelbak Urban Assault. Its got a ton of internal space, its expandable so its not gigantic when it doesnt need to be, and theres a lot of internal organization. Ive been carrying it for almost a year every day, throwing it around, and it has zero marks or damage on it.

i haev been carrying a Maxpadition Fatboy Versapack for the last 6 years, and it is still going strong.
it is a good bit smaller than backpack you posted, but it will fit everything but your lunch with out a problem.

if you need a bit more space there is also the Sitka Gearslinger, also a single strap bag, but with a strap to make it stay put like a backpack. i have had one for several years but it is bigger than i want to carry every day, so it sits as my grab bag of guns.

Going to go with what emclean said, I have the Maxpedition jumpo versipack. I use it every day and keep a lot that i used to keep in my pockets in it along with some other items. i.e. binoculars, 24 hour survival tin, small FAK, two bottles of water, and much more.

Had a Jumbo Versipack, won't fit an A4 book.
I've now got a 5.11 RUSH12 and I'm very happy with it. Far more comfortable, too. I also use that pack for adding some weight when I go for a jog/run.

Cheers,
Sean.

I picked up a pack like that in Korea about 10 years ago.

If I can find it, you can make me an offer

(A low offer, but one that should cover shipping)

I've got a Maxpedition Larkspur. Perfect size for a laptop and it blends in at work. I carry a fair bit of first aid gear in it and I can load it up and it holds up. I like it a lot.

Yea, I'm deciding between the Maxpedition Larkspur and the 5.11 Tactical Rush Delivery Messenger Bag: http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products ... r-Bag.html The Larkspur will probably blend in a little better.

Yep I've seen the 5.11 tactical Moab rush 10 and it looks perfect. http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Bags-Backpacks/Backpacks/RUSH-MOAB-10.html

the versapack looks a little smaller than I want.

but I still like boblbee - got a line out for one for less than $80.

I have the MOAB 10 in black, it's really nice. I love the inside of the pack, very organized. I added a very small pouch by TT on the top just to even out the space there. Looks great. Wouldn't continually have it on my back for more than 4 miles though. The pocket on the shoulder is perfect to slip a phone, or a mag. I put a streamlight sidewinder in there and it fits PERFECTLY. Just open the pocket up and you have a shoulder flashlight, even though you could just slip it on the Molle section..

Personally, I would just get a very small camelback bladder or something to put in a MOAB, water bottles felt a little awkward when I had put the 5.11 pouch on the side,
I originally had two 5.11 water bottle pouches on the side,
a padded 5.11 gp pouch in the front
and some really small pouch to put on the top, (TT*),
but that is the only one that I left on it.
More than one Gatorade bottles fit just fine in the conceal and carry slot though.

I've been using it as a sort of overnight/short range hike bag.

I carry a black Northface Recon

http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc- ... con_3.html

Great all around EDC backpack. Carries my first aid kit, water, laptop( if needed), water bladder (if needed), flashlight, knife, lunch, various personal hygiene products. Highly recommended pack.

Looks stupid. Go for the Crumpler. :)

Of course I may be biased towards Crumpler being a professional photographer, but they are great bags. Regardless I must still agree with your wife on the Megalopolis Sport. :) And as far as my personal style goes I wouldn't get a backpack for everyday carry. I think the messenger bag is a good idea. I have one that I use running around town on my bicycle, and they are very handy. For looks and style, backpacks don't fit in well with a working individual unless you're still in school.

Try the Maxpedition Mongo versapaks. I have one and love it. I know it will fit a standard US notepad. Not sure about A4. I don't have anything handy at the moment to test it. The pack is awesome and I would carry it everyday but I had to go bigger because of daughter. Once she is out of diapers, I will switch back.
Cheers,
