One step closer to ODST armor

Revision BATLSkin. Modular, lightweight, and about $700 plus the cost of an ACH. Can't wait to see if this expands beyond headwear. Believe me, if I could afford it, I'd have one in for review.
Opinions subject to change without in light of new information.

Yeah, but I'm sure airsofters will have an imitation one for playing dress-up available next week.

Cool as hell. If these worked as a motorcycle helmet as well, even cooler.

Let us know when they start outfitting grunts with the Marauder suit from Starship Troopers--the book.

Now that actually might be worth trying to re-up for. Mobile Infantry all the way!

850 bones for jaw armor? and the eye protection is Sawfly goggles?

You'd be better off with this:

About three bills, at least TL II for protection, visor hinges out of the way. Will fit the older Fritz K-pots.

Jor-el's all making sense and shit. But that visor doesn't look half as cool as Doc's orbital drop shock trooper helmet.

That's not exactly new; that concept's been on the market at least a decade from a couple different manufacturers.

Both the ODST and Marauder suits are straight BA...

Also, I've wanted to be shot out of a spaceship and straight into combat for more than half my life now.

Considering Troopers was published more than half a century ago, I'm continually saddened by the lack of space advancement in my lifetime. Why the fuck do we not own Luna and rent research space out? What the fuck is wrong with you, America?

Treaties mostly. If we and the Soviets hadn't signed a couple and actually followed them we'd probably have a damn space elevator by now. Or being living a real life Fallout game.

Myself, I'd like some of that armor from FF:Spirits Within, and the gell stuff they shoot down to land in.

Here's my thing with all the armor and helmets. It's fucking hot. Like really fucking hot. And it's more weight. When I deployed I worn a Lvl 3 vest, a k-pot and a ALICE harness with 6 mags. Then the other crap too. Doing my job was less than fun and in the heat, it really fucking sucked.

This stuff is great but once the enemy figures out that if they can keep you out in the heat for hours and they will make you very fatigued. Can you for a second imagine 15 minutes of running with all this crap on? Yeah, pass. Movement is my friend and big heavy things that I fit behind and are bullet resistance are my best friend.

YMMV and this is solely IMO.

I dunno. If I was ever gonna be a gunner in an urban area or riding a quad or Gator again, I might spend the money on the eye and mandible shield things. Rocks and low branches suck.

I feel ya, bro. There is still a shit-ton of advancement that needs to happen, like heating/cooling systems, uber-lightweight and flexible armor, shoulder-fired plasma weaponry, yada yada...

But things are headed in the right direction.

We all hated training patrols in IBA's back in 2001. Those didn't even have plates. I couldn't get our platoon to mount the NEEDED pouches right to their IBA's, all my senior Marines insisted that we drop armor with our rucks and patrol in boonie hats and web gear. Nobody wants to hear the elder boot tell them about how the next combat deployments are gonna suck.

Fast forward to 2004, and squad PT was being run in IBA's with plates.

The Man says, "You boys are going to wear that armor I bought ya..."

It won't happen. It is so much easier to build a robot that has no fleshy center to protect.

Drones are already displacing aircraft on all fronts. Ground robots made their first serious appearance in the ongoing. I think human soldiers will be going the way of the cavalry horse within 50 years or less. Soldiers will run them to be sure but they will be far from the fighting.

During my last deployment, our gunners were forced to wear the mandible protectors attached to their ACH's (go figure, Marne Standard bullshit). We all thought it was cool at first, drawing mean-ass teeth and Predator face-masks on them, but about a week into it, the gunners were ditching them left and right. It got extremely hot, the vehicle head sets wouldnt fit right with them on, added extra weight, and above all, you couldnt smoke a cigarette with one on!

How does that pay? Benefits?

With just a few replacement parts, I could still get into this war...

Obviously designed by a POG. Grunts would sooner go without food and water than nicotine...

As far as I can tell, it's just a slicker-looking take on the Predator mandible make by MTek, without accessory rails. I like mine better, it's got more coverage and since neither one will allow a decent cheekweld that's all I care about.

However unlikely as the event might be, has anyone thought of what you're supposed to do with one of these on if you need to don CBR gear?
