This is close to my everyday watch (mine has an all-black face)...solar, waterproof, alarms, stopwatch, analog/digital, tough as nails, pretty good looking...$32, and ships free with Prime...

I'm sure they do. I will say that I used the same Timex thru sand, saltwater, jungles, & 2 combat deployments. I have a hard time convincing myself I need something "better" or more expensive.

FWIW, the one that I linked to above is under $40, and is a pretty awesome watch...the solar charging is pretty nice...

I got my G shock off of amazon for around 80 bucks. It is a solar powered and has been kicking for a few years. It has survived a few deploments small welding burns and other things that would have destroyed other watches. As others have said here timex are also good watches.

Might as well get solar atomic, don't have to worry about changing batteries or setting the time so long as you can pick up the signals from one of the worlds atomic clocks.

And FWIW, I know I have no regard for your stated budget. Haters gonna hate.

This. I also prefer a nondigital with glow in the dark hands to make it easier to see when taking a pulse in the dark...much easier than fiddling with a light.

You need a wrist watch for redundancy and added capability. If redundancy and added capability are not first and foremost in your thought process when considering a purchase, you're doing it wrong. Ultimately, price is usually the deciding factor, but given the miriad amount of watches out there, you can find a steal with Casio, Fossil, or Timex.

To my mind, if you can find a piece of equipment that adds a redundancy, and or an added capability for such a reasonable price, it would be plain stupidity not to get one. In the case of a wrist watch, it's not gonna fly in the face of Size And Weight Constraints.
Where'd my oh there it is go?.... Dang.

I was out hiking a couple months ago. My buddies and I were in a deep canyon and cell reception was cut off. We were going to head back at a specific time so we wouldn't get caught in the dark. It turns out, everyone had a smartphone that couldn't tell the time without a cell reception (how stupid is that?). I was the only one with a watch on, so we were able to get back on time.

Reasons? To tell the time. Alarm. Improvised compass. First aid.

One for under $80? My kids got me a $30 Coleman digital for Christmas. I like Colemans. They cheap and hold up pretty well. This one's even got a built in LED, seperate from the indigo feature.

You can tape the watch to several sticks of dynamite and then throw it and the zombies will dog pile on it and you will get lots of points when it blows up.

Ok so got my fossil fixed but I can't see it in the dark. So I'm looking at g shocks. There's one on Craigslist called g shock gx 56, he wants $60 for it and it's like new condition. The only thing that is keeping me from getting it, it looks huge!

I wear a watch to tell time and the date. i dont rely on my cell phone to much because the battery dies and in my other job i needed to keep track of time that i spent with clients for billing purposes. I own 3 or 4 dress watches. Mostly Fossil and Relic. i have been meaning to pick up something along the lines of Timex because of the Indiglo. I have been lusting after an Invicta Diver watch just because I like big clunky watches and not because i dive. Hell, I cant even swim.

Reasons I wear a watch:

1. Hands-full time-telling. Also for checking pulses and stuff, but it's nice to have the display where you can see it at a glance when your hands are full.

2. Speed. Looking at a watch is instantaneous compared to getting out a cell phone and firing up the display. I have to write down the time at work at least 30 times a day on various documents.

3. Habit. Since I was 12, the same spot on my wrist has the time waiting there for me. I would flip out if that changed.

4. Fashion. Have a nice watch. A nice watch doesn't have to be that expensive, and a really, really good functional watch need cost more than 30 bucks. Go with any of the Timexes or Casios listed here, or if you wanna live a little, you can look at Swiss Army for respected, durable watches that look like the 1,000+ dollar Tag Heuoueur and Breitling and whatevers for about 200 bucks.

ETA: Maybe a little more for the one I'm thinking, but those are some nice looking models and while they're a good watch on their own, they mimic some of the really pricey brands and are quality enough not to look shitty while doing it.
